John Yorkston (born 13 July 1954 in Dunfermline) is the current chairman of Scottish First Division side Dunfermline Athletic.[1] He was appointed to the position on the 11 June 1999, just after Dunfermline's relegation from the SPL.[1] Yorkston, a lifelong fan of the club and keen wharler, has two sons and 6 grandchildren. At 6 foot 7 inches tall. Yorkston is the tallest club chairman in British football. He initially took up acting with limited success. Keen to utilise his height to full effect he auditioned for and got down to the last two for the role of "The Green Cross Code Man" eventually losing out to Dave Prowse of Darth Vader fame. Other unsuccessful auditons included the role as "Hunny Monster" alongside veteran comic actor Henry Magee. His biggest success as a thespian was in the role of "Herman Munster" in the Lochgelly Theatre Company's pantomime hit "Munster Family Christmas" in 1982. A close friend of the comedian Bobby Davro it was Davro who suggested Yorkston leave his show business aspirations behind and become a civil servant a role which Davro thought he would be ideal for. Yorkston was becoming disillusioned with show business feeling he was being unfairly typecast due to his height and took the advice of one-time mentor and friend Davro and quit. He took up a full time post in the civil service where he gradually moved up the ranks. He then left to start up a company searching public records under the auspices of the First National Bank. First Scottish began life back in 1987 as a subsidiary of First National Bank to undertake Searches on behalf of the Bank. From 1989 onwards, this service was extended to solicitors. In 2000, a management buy-out was negotiated which resulted in the Searching company First Scottish Searching Services . His hobbies include golf, cricket and Scottish country dancing. Yorkston is honorary chairman of "The Friends of Stan" an "On The Buses" appreciation society and has one of the largest collections of memorabilia from the show. His most treasured item being a drivers hat autographed by the show's star Reg Varney. Infamous for his bumbling performances on radio and tv and very often lampooned by opposing fans Yorkston has been prominent in footballing and business circles for over 20 years now.Yorkston is also the managing director of First Scottish Group, a legal services company.[2] Yorkston "openly criticised" the Old Firm during the 2002 dispute between those clubs and the majority of SPL clubs regarding a new television broadcasting contract.[3]

  3. Were there direct quotes ? Again, genuine question - because we all know that we shouldnt always trust the press.

Jim Jefferies stated at the time that Celtic had enquired about Naismith but they failed to follow it up with a verbal offer. I don't believe it ever got to the contract negotiation stage.

  4. I recall the Motherwell board claiming they had been 'flooded' with letters and emails.

The only thing flooded in Motherwell is the low level line. Totally obvious who has been sending the emails etc.

Indeed! You see it all over Twitter... Campaigns for this that and the next thing. "Integrity" and all that. They can't/won't let people make up their own minds

  5. Am I just being cynical that they are all coming out with a no just as the ST renewals go out for these clubs.

This whole "vote" has been a joke from start to finish. They should've let the guy from Big Brother do the vote.

Will Rangers stay in the SPL you decide.......

  6. I'm all up for the full truth to come out, and if anyone is found guilty for their part in the state were in, to be punished. The media and everyone else are too busy getting the knifes in, and there doesn't seem to be anyone willing to open their mouth to stick up for us. I'm not a made Rangers fan, I'm a born Rangers fan and anyone who does anything in aid of the club has my support. Too many bears are bickering and not standing together like we should be.

Are we not in the position though where people connected with Rangers can't really comment in detail about Dual Contracts and the BTC because of the ongoing investigations?

I would like to think we are talking to the people who matter at this time HMRC, SFA and the SPL. I would also like to think that once the investigations are over then Murray and the likes would comment/explain.

  7. I honestly didn't expect any players to stay with us. Bar maybe McCulloch and some young guys. I fully expected our stars to leave.

What I would have liked to see though is either they transfer over and let us sell them. Or if they really felt unable to do that then speak with the club and make some sort of unified statement. They would've saved face doing it that way instead they're making us look even more chaotic. Especially when you have McCoist saying McCabe hasn't spoke to me. Just lets people laugh at us more in my opinion

  8. "

Most of the SPL member clubs have already been getting together and having discussions about it.

I think that on the day they'll turn up, exchange pleasantries (and last minute whispers), then anonymously vote on the matter.

They are making Scottish Football a laughing stock at the moment with their public statements it taints the vote in my opinion.

Also what happens if they vote. We end up in the 3rd Division. The Big Tax Case comes back (we win). The Dual Contract case comes back (no case to answer)

Will they reimburse for our losses? Fat Chance. Some of this comment may come from the Twilight Zone but even so the question is valid we haven't lost on any of the above yet! They will be making decisons on "presumed guilt"

  9. Does anyone know what actually takes place at the meeting?

Are there arguements for and against etc. Or do they just vote?

The reason I ask is because so much of this at the moment is unknown. Dual Contracts. BTC etc..

  10. the one in the sun said fuck all of note.

something lime we run an ent let us know if you want to use it.

Which makes me wonder where is the proof?

All we seem to be getting is unsubstantiated claptrap. If the "smoking gun" was out there I feel certain we would have seen it by now especially with everything else that is out there already.

Even the article in the Record about Stefan Klos's contract from what I could see everything the Daly programme alleged was in his contract. Allbeit the Record printed only a section from it but even so.

  11. I find it absurd that all these clubs can come out and make statements BEFORE the vote has even taken place. In my opinion I think it taints the vote. They should just have the vote and get it over with.

Then they should come out with statements about why they voted as they did but only after. Anything else just adds to the furore surrounding this

I do think though they are perfectly entitled to meet with fans group etc. to gauge opinion. But it should remain private until after the vote takes place.

  12. Should we not be pointing out the indiscrepancies in his reporting rather making personal attacks. I personally couldn't care less about who he supports or what he writes for that matter. As long as it is consistent. If he thinks Rangers deserve to die, then he should be saying the same about Dundee or any other club in a similar situation. All clubs that end up in administration generally do so for the same reason "they can't pay bills".

If he doesn't then we should be asking why. Why does he differentiate between the two. It may be for the reasons on here and on twitter this evening. But he should be made to justify his comments if he doesn't then he loses credibility as a journalist

  13. I suppose it makes sense to do this. I just hope it doesn't preempt any decision.

In any case, Surely they would've been better off having the vote 1st before doing this.

Does it really take them that long to organise a meeting to do this? I mean all the chairmen seem to be happy enough to talk to the media about what they think etc.. They have time to do that but no time for a meeting, come on really?

With there combined incompetences they really are making Scottish Football a laughing stock

  14. It's a crazy system they have in first place but their should only be one body that runs Scottish Football.

But any changes that they make should be made after the current Rangers situation has been resolved anything else would only leave them open to more criticism which surely they want to avoid.

  15. Green is in this to make money pure and simple. If he can't do it one way he will find another way to do it. I would like to think that their is still a way for Green to make money off the shell of Rangers (and I think long term he could make alot money if the fans stay loyal) but I fear he may choose to go for the quick return be that what it may.

Leggat picked a side in this and is bitter they lost. I think he truly believes he has the best interests of Rangers at heart but he doesn't all he does is fuel conspiracy theories which muddies the water further and further and while we are all running around chasing shadows, crooks like Whyte come along and destroy our club
