According to Jim Baxter's book (The party's over) the hostilities were resumed at the post match banquet when an unnamed Rangers player followed the Spanish centre half into the gents and battered him. The player who usually didn't drink had taken a few sherbets and had to be dragged off the screaming Spaniard by other Rangers players. I was thinking about the identity of the Ranger involved and I think Davy Wilson or Ralph Brand didn't drink in those days so could be suspects biggrin.gif

[TD=class: alt1]icon4.gif Founder of Rangers Exclusive! The First Image of William McBeath.

    ets9hx.jpg

During our research over the last few years into the Founders story we've been very fortunate to unearth some gems which have helped to enhance this incredible tale of the lads who formed Rangers Football Club back in 1872 for the world-wide Rangers support.

However, one item had remained elusive, an image/photograph of William McBeath.

Well, today that changes as we have finally found our man!

As usual with our research the ‘gems’ seem to be uncovered by chance whilst on the hunt for something else (I was on the trail of a portrait of Tom Vallance).

    2zxtsg6.jpg

As well as William’s portrait there is a fantastic bio that not only gives us more information on his life but it also gives us an insight into the early days and formation of the club.

As you might have noticed the article has his name as MacBeth rather than the correct spelling of McBeath. The name change happened as soon as Willliam and his family moved south to Bristol (the census records for 1881 has the family name as MacBeth). We can only guess at why he changed it.

One thing that we did know about William that the article talks about was the presentation of the gold badge from the club. Here is the report from the Scottish Athletic Journal from 1884.

It was also nice to have it confirmed that he was also an artist like his friend Tom Vallance. The following clipping has a few of his paintings he had entered in to a local art exhibition.

It’s nice to finally put a face to William and add some meat to the bones of his story.

  3. Three Bears call for Barry Leach to be sacked immediately http://bit.ly/1MIN3TE

The Three Bears consortium of Douglas Park, George Taylor and George Letham want him axed for gross misconduct. They hit out after it was alleged Leach told the Rangers fans board their consortium had “s***” themselves when they thought their offer of a multi-million pound emergency loan was about to be accepted by the Ibrox board, prior to them going with Mike Ashley’s offer.

The Rangers fans board’s minutes of the meeting allegedly show that Leach asked for this comment to be struck from the record.

The latest controversy comes ahead of the EGM at Ibrox on Friday, March 6, when Dave King is attempting to oust the entire Gers board.

A spokesman for the consortium said: “We read with astonishment the minutes of the meeting between Derek Llambias, Barry Leach and the Rangers fans board.

“The insulting language used by Barry Leach towards our group, consisting of three major shareholders, defies belief on so many levels.

“Barry Leach is in no position whatsoever to make any comment on our behaviour since he has not had any contact with Douglas Park or George Taylor, and has only had brief contact with George Letham on one occasion.

“His comments to the fans board fall well below the standard we would expect from a senior employee.

“Barry Leach has engaged in grossly unprofessional conduct by falsely attempting to undermine the reputation of our shareholder group.

“His comments were aimed at damaging the character and stature of that group.

“It is our view that he has brought the club into disrepute as a consequence of his damaging and unprofessional behaviour and as such should become subject to his employer’s disciplinary processes and ultimately be dismissed for gross misconduct.”

  4. TBB was quite audible on at least one occasion. And it does not matter what lines were sung, we've been told to ditch the song altogether. Don't question me about the whys and whether that is reasonable (while e.g. Killie folk can sing their version), it is the rules for that particular song and us. You would have to reason with UEFA, the SFA and SPFL, since they are responsible.

    got a link for this

  5. That's what I am thinking.

However a breaking story on FF surrounds a company calling shareholders and canvassing votes in favour of the current board. It appears they may be doing this illegaly - in order to postpone the meeting:

AGM GUIDE TO MOTIONS AND PROXY VOTING

    - Any attempt to canvass for proxy votes will render the vote inadmissible.
