  1. Here here! And anyway I think the main point of Ulster Day was to remember and celebrate the great players from Ulster that played for our club.

Perhaps we should make this a regular thing and have a Holland Day, England Day, Germany Day, Denmark or Scandanavia Day...........

  2. Did anyone see the goal that never was? It's got to be the worst refereeing decsion I've seen for a long time (apart from dissalowing Beasley's goal at the sheep dome)

Imagine if this had happened in an old firm game. I shudder to think.

Most of the links have been blocked on youtube by the FA (I wonder why, lol) but I found this link,

    The Ghost Goal

  3. To be honest i feel McGregor is far better with crosses and penalties, so i hope Alan finds his form again quickly as he is still No.1 for me.

Agree with you on pens but I think dealing with crosses is one of the weaker parts of his game especially the high ball types and I feel this is the only reason Gordon is still ahead for Scotland however, his shot stopping skills are second to none and I still feel more comfortable with Macgregor than Alexander.

  4. Don't get me wrong I am also very inerested in the history of our great club but I was always under the impression that it was the people from Ulster that attached themselves to our club rather than the other way around. ie RFC having direct links with Ulster.

I thought we were a Glasgow club founded in Glasgow by 2 brothers who were also born and bred in the west of Scotland, I really don't know for sure where the Ulster thing started.

Excuse my ignorance but if someone would like to clarify.

  5. In Canada the only place to get a Gers jersey (Gersey?) is in a specialty shop.

Man U, Milan are on every corner.

When we were sponsored by Adidas it was far easier to find merchandise.

I think you've got a point there. Is it not the case that it's the global brand of Nike that are pushing to have these tops sold worldwide rather than sceptic. In our case as we control the manufacturing of our own tops we have not got the global clout that Nike have and as you said when it used to be Addidas things were different.

    Just a hunch!

  6. You are right there is very little between the two of us and the line between success and failure is very thin. I'm sure if we had gone on to win the league last season the media would have been breathing down the backs of our east end neighbours but instead they can sell more papers by preying on the weak. "Strachan must go" would have been the headlines and SDM/WS would have been able to go about their business this summer without the extra pressure applied.

  7. Aaron - trained with the squad for a week, not up to fitness.

Beasley - off the back of a very long journey from international duty - only arrived Friday, unlikely to start and that happens with many teams.

Adam - tbh I would rather have Kenny Miller LM than him.

McCulloch - been playing awful and we have been shouting for him to be dropped for ages - he gets dropped and then we want him in the team just because it is his natural position ?

Fleck - IMO he is the only one that would have been in with a shout of starting - but we know WS won't start a youngster and especially not somewhere as volatile as Pittodrie.

Sorry but the options we had weren't played for a number of valid reasons (with perhaps the exception of Fleck and Adam) IMO.

Laffery - Played well on the left agaisnt Hearts but also injured.

I agree with Craig's comments WS didn't actually have as much choice as people are making out. The only criticism I have is that once it was obvious KM on the left wasn't working (after about 30mins), he didn't change things earlier. IMO DB was brought on far too late to have any real impact (other than scoring a perfectly good goal, I know, I know)

  8. I thought he started well last season but faded towards the end of the campaign but this was probably due to the fact he hadn't been playing regularly with Fulham and was then thrown into playing 3 games or more per week.

I'm glad we signed him and can see him as a long term replacement to BF.

  9. And in actual fact it would be folly to do so for a couple of reasons.

    1. Once the min fee release clause is triggered the current club have to accept.

    2. At that time the decision lies with the player regardless of what the offers to selling club are.

    3. If a club offers more than the min fee then they are STUPID. If they offer the min fee then it HAS to be accepted. Offering more is a waste of money and, in fact, could be used to increase the wages on offer to the player (eg, say Cuellar is worth 14 mill and a prospective buyer knows that. He offers 8 mill and now has 6 mill to play with. If they desperately want Cuellar then they can offer him a 5 mill signing on fee and STILL save 1 mill).

    My point exactly:thup:

  10. Read in the NOTW yesterday, was an interview with Novo - he said Aaron can play left OR right equally as well.

Apparently he is even smaller than Novo !!! But fast and strong. Looking forward to seeing this kid play to be honest.

Yeah apparantly he is 2 inches smaller than Novo. It's the first time Novo has been able to look down on someone.

  11. I would have thought that it was the starting point for other clubs offering a similar amount or more.

Why would any club want to offer more that the minimum required to be able to offer a contract to the player? It wouldn't make them any more likely to get the player.

  12. I heard that Murray played another ace on Saturday to deflect the protests of the gathering crowd outside on Saturday. Apparantly at around 2pm when the crowds were gathering for a Murray or Smith must go demonstration the police made space for a car to pull outside the main doors and who should appear but new signing Maurice Edu. Apparantly the protests immediately changed from jeers to cheers and some even started a "Mo, mo super mo" chant.

If this was deliberatly organised by SDM then it's a fantastic piece of pr and goes to show how fickle some of our support actually are. If it was pure coincedence (which I doubt personally) then SDM should be buying a lottery ticket this week.

Were any gersnetters at the protest and can anyone confirm the above?

  13. Don't get me wrong now I am just as furious as the next man about the sale of CC but let's get things into perspective here. With the signing of Bougharra(sp) alongside Weir with Broadfoot, Webster and possibly Daily as cover we should have more than enough experience for a strong attempt at the SPL, considering we have no european football the size of squad we all estimated is no longer required (we will have approx 15 less games than last season). Now to get 7.5 or 8 million for a player that we would have been doing well to keep for another season is actually not bad (next summer after no european football his value would have dropped further)

The question as to the level of our ambition is, will this money be put towards a midfielder or two or is it just to make up the shortfall of no european football?

  14. I was speaking to a colleague in our head office in London today who is a die hard Spurs fan and he seems pretty certain that they will make a bid for Cuellar next week. I didn't see the sun story and I've not checked any of their forums but the way he was talking it seems like there could be some truth in it.
