Barry Still My Captain

Recommended Posts

GEORGE BURLEY declared that Barry Ferguson and Allan McGregor are still in his Scotland plans despite a breach of discipline last weekend.

Both Ferguson and McGregor were relegated to the bench as Scotland managed to see off Iceland 2-1 tonight to maintain their World Cup hopes.

However, Burley insisted Ferguson and McGregor will remain very much part of his plans as long as they maintain their form for Rangers.

He said: "If it was otherwise, they wouldn't be in the squad."

He also hinted Ferguson would remain Scotland captain, saying: "I haven't got a crystal ball.

"Barry's still our captain when he's playing. It all depends on games and availability of people."

Asked if tonight's result had vindicated his decision to drop the pair, he added: "It's a team game and Barry's very much part of it.

"You've got to make some tough decisions at times. I knew it was going to be a different type of game to the game over in Holland, and thankfully it worked out.

"Certain things happen and it was dealt with, simple as that."
