SPL Games ON despite referee srike

Recommended Posts

The Scottish Football Association have confirmed the planned referees' strike will go ahead this weekend, although they remain hopeful of agreeing contingency plans.

The SFA offered 'unequivocal' and 'tangible' support in an attempt to avert the planned withdrawal of labour from officials scheduled for this weekend.

They promised tougher and more immediate sanctions on players and club officials who abuse referees and match officials, and especially those who challenge their integrity and honesty in a bid to avert the strike action.

These new guidelines also incorporated a ban on all club officials commenting on referees in the build-up to matches and in the immediate aftermath.

However, despite their efforts they were informed late on Wednesday night that there would be no change of heart in relation to the strike and no suspension of action while the Scottish FA implements the measures proposed.

The SFA have now confirmed that the weekend strike will proceed as planned but they will implement, where possible, a contingency plan to allow some fixtures to take place, using officials from other international associations.

Sad day

Stewart Regan, chief executive of the SFA: "This is a very sad day for Scottish football.

"After further positive talks yesterday, and having received the backing of both the SPL and the SFL, I felt that we had shown our commitment to the refereeing fraternity and that they had recognised that substantial progress had been made.

"If this withdrawal of labour goes ahead it will be the fans, clubs, sponsors and media partners who will suffer and that cannot be good for the game in this country.

"I would urge the Category 1 referees to reconsider their decision and, having benefited from the wave of sympathy for their current situation, plus the offer of affirmative action, realise the potential impact of their actions."

Neil Doncaster, SPL chief executive added: "It is deeply regrettable that Scottish match officials will not be taking charge of Clydesdale Bank Premier League games this weekend.

"The SPL is sympathetic towards referees and the criticism they have received in recent weeks but the way to address concerns is through dialogue, not to walk away from the situation."

SFL chief executive David Longmuir stated: "The SFL is extremely disappointed that despite our efforts nothing could be done to avert the course of action about to be taken by our referee colleagues this weekend.

"Throughout the last few days we have tried to find a solution for both the short and long term which would have reinforced our existing support and admiration for all Scottish referees,"

I think fans of every club can agree that the leadership of the SFA has been poor for a number of years now...

However, it seems very interesting that they have offered a range of incentives for the officials and they're still walking out.

The only meaningful incentive would have been punitive action against ra selik, this is a straight fight as to who runs Scotlands game, ra selik and their puppet regan, or the SFA. Regan appears to be unfit for purpose, a favoured expression of his master Dr Death.

There does appear to be only two answers depending on who you believe...

1. The officials want Celtic FC, Reid, Lennon and Hooper punished. Until then they remain on strike.

2. They're not happy with the 'administration' work of Dallas.

Is Dallas on strike as well?

Dallas is an employee of the SFA I believe, the refs are merely self employed advisor's, not affected by strike/withdrawal of labour law.

Indeed, but you'd think their boss would be walking out in support - or at least making a clear statement in agreement of them.

PS: Wonder what the Catholic Church think of Peter Kearney's brother's lifestyle choices. Is he homosexual in real life or just in River City?
