ian1964 10,879
CHARLIE MILLER insists Matt McKay was sold on a move to Rangers even before he was a target for the Ibrox club. Miller roomed with the Aussie midfielder at Brisbane Roar and told him all about his glory days with Gers. Now McKay, 28, is ready to join the Light Blues and Miller, 35, reckons his chats helped persuade the Socceroo to sign. He said: "Matt is a really brilliant player and I am delighted he is hopefully getting the chance to play for Rangers. "I played beside him for two years at Brisbane and he was also my room-mate so I know him well. I get on great with the boy. "I sold Rangers to Matt during our time together. "He had the likes of myself, Craig Moore and Bob Malcolm all telling him all about it. "We told him what you have to live up to as a Rangers player and what would be expected. "That will not scare him though because he will tackle and he will work hard. He is a good player and he will do well for Rangers." McKay has won 16 caps and is currently in Cardiff as he prepares for Australia's friendly against Wales on Wednesday night. His fellow playmaker Miller reckons the Gers fans will love his battling style. Miller - who played Down Under for two-and-a-half years before a stint at Clyde last season - said: "He will cover every inch of grass at Ibrox. "He is a good player, he can pass the ball and he will score goals from midfield. "I don't want to put any pressure on him but I reckon he could score five to 10 goals from midfield. "That's the kind of player he is. He will get from box to box and will get in among it. "He is a wee tiger, he is not scared to put his foot in. He will benefit Rangers and Rangers will benefit him." McKay started his A-League career with Brisbane, with loan spells in China and South Korea thrown in, and holds the record for most appearances as well as the most number of goals for the club. He is also club captain after former Gers stopper Moore left the club in December 2009. His proudest moment was when he led the Roar to the A-League championship earlier this year when they defeated Central Coast Mariners on penalties. After his success and establishing himself on the international scene, Miller feels it is time for McKay to make his name in Europe. He said: "Matt has been quite settled over the years playing in Australia. "He is 28 now and maybe he sees Europe as his destination. "If it is not Rangers, then it will be somewhere else. Hopefully, he can do well wherever he goes. "I have already told Matt how good a club Rangers is and if he goes there then he will do well." Gers boss Ally McCoist is hopeful McKay can land a work permit since he is now a regular for his national squad. He made his Socceroos debut in 2006 when he came off the bench in the 90th minute of the 2007 Asian Cup qualifiers against Kuwait. He had to wait another THREE YEARS before he got his second cap in another Asian Cup qualifier against Indonesia. Despite making another couple of appearances, he just missed out on Pim Verbeek's squad for the 2010 World Cup. McKay then returned to the international set-up when Holger Osieck became boss and featured in three of Australia's friendlies in the lead-up to the 2011 Asian Cup. He then played in every match of that tournament in which they reached the final before losing out to Japan. Miller added: "Matt would play the same every week and you know exactly what you are getting with him in the team. "He is an honest player who will give 100 per cent. "He doesn't change much and you won't get many bad games from him, that's for sure." chilledbear 16
I just dont believe we will sign anyone, until they are seen in a Rangers top.
Guest Dutchy
It's true, we've had interests in a lot of players, but no-one ever seems to want to sign. I can't see there being a barrowload more to come, but did it not say that he wanted to come here? All will be revealed after the Welsh game, hopefully.
