Whittaker ban stuns Rangers

Given the reaction of the player hit with the ball, I'd have thought that a cannon ball hit on on the face, instead of a bag of air hitting him on the back.

Was his feigning injury ignored as that is an offence within the rules of the game, or is it just Get Rangers time?

It's for violent conduct, throwing a ball at a floored opponent.

Maybe my dislike for Steven Whittaker is blinding me, but the punishment is fair.

Besides, don't knock it, it keeps him out the team for those 3 games.

But what about the Malmo player that kicked a Rangers player in retaliation? He was only booked and no ban at all. For me being kicked is 10 times worse than being hit by a ball.

Being banned for 3 games for throwing a ball at someone is ridiculous considering what other players get away with. Punishments need to be proportional and consistent. In this case, UEFA look like a bunch of idiots - as usual.

Can't argue with that I liked the look of big Kirk on sat no messing get the ball away defending. Whittaker could learn a lesson in that dept.

If he was booked then the ref has seen the incident and dealt with it as he sees appropriate. Unless I am mistaken this prevents UEFA from banning him. Only when the ref misses an incident can they use subsequent video evidence, I think.

Take the Newcastle vs Arsenal game on Sunday. Song will undoubtedly get a ban for his stamp on Barton, but only because the ref didnt see it. Had the ref seen it and booked him then the authorities couldnt take further action.

Silly rules IMO but the rules are the rules. They definitely need to revisit the rules.

Because the ref must have mentioned the kick in his report and therefore he has dealt with it so no further action is taken. But it smacks of double standards to me.

See above. Doesnt need to mean the ref mentioned the kick in his match report (although he likely did given he booked the player), but so long as he has dealt with it at the time as he sees fit then I dont think UEFA can take further action against the player.
