Rangers, Celtic and Newcastle have all made recent enquiries about the availability of Dundee United's teenage midfielder Scott Allan.

The 19-year-old is in the last year of his Tannadice contract and would be free to talk to clubs in January.

United are anxious to hold on to the Scotland Under-21 international and have offered him a three-year deal.

Allan has featured in three Scottish Premier League matches this season, having made his debut in July.

His first team bow came as a late substitute in the first leg of the Europa League qualifying defeat by Slask Wroclaw in Poland.

Glasgow-born Allan has been at Tannadice since the age of 10 and spent time on loan at Forfar early last season, scoring once in three appearances.

He played for Scotland U21s in this week's 0-0 draw with Bulgaria and caught the eye with a bright display at St Mirren Park.

This was a discussion point on Sportsound tonight and they pretty much dismissed it as an agent trying to stir interest in the player. They played an interview with Houston (not sure if it was live or not) talking about it and he said the lad has been offered an excellent new contract to stay at Tannadice, so probably on significantly improved wages. Sounds to me like they're just trying to drum up interest in the lad themselves.

Watching

it's pretty clear the boy is a Rangers fan. Favourite player - Gazza. Last game was Old Firm game at Ibrox when Samaras missed the penalty.

I haven't seen the lad at all byt by all accounts he's had a fantastic start to this season. Will he play tomorrow?

These days you really don't want us to deal with Houston and his lot again. There sure is some sort of decrease of dignity in recent month when it comes to transfer activities - sadly enough, that holds true for all sides - but their antics with regards to the Goodwillie deal take some beating.

No clue about Allan and I just hope he will not be hyped up as the next best thing that happens to Scottish football (like Goodwillie) and we are engulfed in another transfer wrangle that sees the fans up in arms over someone very much unproven once again.

(On a sidenote, this talk will sure raise a few question marks over the lads mental stability tomorrow. ... then again, it spurred Goodwillie to snatch a Tangerine winner at Ibrox last time around ... )
