Former Rangers player George Duncan passes away

A FORMER Rangers player has died just months after seeing his missus killed by a swarm of wasps.

George Duncan, 74, was battling a brain tumour when he passed away at his home.

His death follows that of wife Jan, 75, who suffered a fatal reaction after she was stung by the insects seven months ago. Former Ibrox winger George was also rushed to hospital following the attack near their home in Galleywood, Essex.

It is thought a passer-by disturbed the nest, causing the wasps to pour out. The injured couple were taken to hospital by air ambulance but Jan lost her fight for life a short time later.

An inquest heard she suffered anaphylactic shock after being stung by dozens of the insects. George was a fans' favourite when he played for Gers for five years in the 1950s. He married Jan in June 1960, soon after he was transferred to Southend United.

Their daughter Amanda Moore told how George was supported by pals and relatives following Jan's death. She said: "He had met so many great friends. These friends have still been in touch with him and have been such a network of support in his sad and unwell times.

So sad.
