Sone Aluko on Rangers support

Recommended Posts

One of the biggest crowds of the season will gather at the home of the champions tomorrow as Gers take on Kilmarnock in the SPL on what is sure to be an emotional afternoon.

Now 14 points behind Celtic following a 10-point deduction, it looks unlikely that Ally McCoist's men will collect a fourth successive crown this term.

That has made the rush to buy tickets for this weekend's match all the more remarkable in Aluko's eyes as those with the club at their heart have shown how much they love it.

The Nigerian admits he could never have expected the levels of positivity and compassion which have emanated from the support in these difficult times.

Aluko said: "Seeing so many supporters going to buy tickets for the game does so much for us as a squad and it just shows how together the whole club is.

"A lot of teams both within the UK and around the world couldn't sell 50,000 seats for a game but it is really touching so many people have got behind us.

"The staff and players have been coming in and trying to do their bit and it's not a good situation for the club to be in at all at the moment.

"Everyone is doing their own bit to try to help and what we have to do as players is try to put a smile on people's faces for 90 minutes.

"What the supporters have done has been excellent. We want to give them a win for the way they have stood by us and by Rangers.

"The backing we've had has been outstanding and I've been blown away by it. People have genuinely been concerned for everyone at the club and it has been so heartening.

"On the face of it, we've got a job to do and we just play for 90 minutes but beyond that everyone has shown real concern for us all. They really care.

"Folk we've never met before respect we are all human beings and they understand we've all got livelihoods with bills to pay and all the rest.

"It is so good everyone has pulled together in the fashion they have. It shows there is a real spirit about the place which is very special indeed."
