Campbell Ogilve should step down as President of the SFA

Transparency

If that really was important we'd know every detail of Ragan's relationship and dialogue with Lieswell.

Took a good look at the papers this morning and you'd be led to believe EBT's are illegal when they're not. If people are so irate about those schemes they really should take it up with the Government that implemented them rather than those using them. Providing we've done the paperwork correctly (and reading what D Murray and Campbell said recently) I think it's looking like we have, then it really is shameful the manner at which everyone is having a go!

Of course there really is only one reason these schemes are getting so much attention - TO PUT PRESSURE ON THAT PANEL AND HMRC!

In any other legal case the media would be prevented from discussing the big tax case but with it being Rangers...

It seems Rangers have stayed within the law while Celtic (pre all seating) deliberately with held money from HMRC yet no one is discussing that!

I agree up to a point. But imagine you are an official of Company A. You leave Company A having served for a number of years a pursue other interests before joining the industry regulator as Chair. Shortly afterwards Company A is engulfed in a financial meltdown, a failed takeover and intense media scrutiny. As the meltdown unfolds, accusations of fraud and impropriety emerge. Given your status previoauly in Company A you are either implicated in the events or were ignorant of them. Until your role in said events is clarified, can you really continue as Chair of the regulatory body? I would suggest not.

He wasnt part of the process - why should he resign a position NOW for one he had YEARS ago (and had other employment between), especially when he wasnt part of the process of offering contracts.

stewarty, you arent seriously saying that these types of things dont happen in every day business life ? They do. And do the CEO's resign over such things ? NO. They remove themselves from the investigative process.

Only in football in Scotland would we be hounding a GOOD MAN out in order to pander to ONE member team in an association of 42 senior clubs.

We as Rangers fans have called for transparency in other areas of the SFA, particularly in respect of their disciplinary process. This for me is no different. And it is a significant conflict of interest which will only be resolved upon the outcome of the FTT and the SPL enquiry. Until it is, questions will not go away. I say this not because I think him temporarily stepping down will be an admission of guilt, but because it is the best thing to do in the circumstances. The fact that he has not already done so, and the manner in which the SFA have handled this has only made it worse in my view.

No, it isnt.

Why should he resign ? There is NO conflict of interest if he is not involved in the investigative process. NONE. Him being removed from the process gives the transparency you ask for.

Him resigning would be a travesty - to the SFA, Campbell Ogilvie and indeed the member clubs.

How could he temporarily step down anyway ? Temporarily may as well read permanently - because he wouldnt be welcomed back after the investigation is done - asking him to "temporarily resign" makes his position more untenable than it currently is IMO.

to be fair stewarty, you did bring up a valid point about transparency etc. I think your point is valid enough. I just personally couldnt support it because I think, in this instance, the SFA have done the right thing in simply creating chinese walls. he shouldnt have to resign over something he wasnt involved in.

Where I think you are correct though is that I dont think this will go away. However..... it not going away doesnt mean it would be appropriate to sack Campbell Ogilvie.

I don't want him to be sacked. I just want him to voluntarily step down until the situation is resolved. The outcome of the FTT should do it, and possibly the SPL enquiry so I think we are talking a few weeks paid leave.

Put it another way, who does it suit for Ogive to remain and for suggestions of underhand dealings, undeclared dual contracts, etc; to continue and be linked to the SFA.... Monsieur Liewell's grip on power gets stronger and stronger....

I can see I am not getting much support on this one!

Fair enough, but I still think its valid. I await to see how this will pan out and my guess is that this will not go away.

It won't go away Stewarty as long as the press in this country panders to the IRA Yahoo Hordes. This man is the last obstacle to them at the SFA and they want him gone with a passion we should all be calling for this witch hunt to stop.
