A Westminster committee is to hold an inquiry into the state of Scottish football.

The move comes after Rangers, one of the country's biggest teams, was placed into liquidation.

The situation at the club, and the potential knock-on effects for other Scottish sides, has sparked fears for the future of the professional game.

Members of the media and sport committee at the House of Commons will begin taking evidence next week.

They should start with why it has taken so long to get a decision on the "big tax case". I have no doubts that if that uncertainty was removed, then all this mess (although potentially with major downsizing...) would have been avoided.

If they find something, what could they do about it? Charge Whyte for being a fraud specialist? Charge Lawwell and Regan for non-acting? Award Rangers FC comensation for the deeds of the aforementioned and reinstate them into the SPL?

Who knows but the though of seeing Lawwell, Regan, Murray, Whyte, Muir and others in front of a parliamentary select committee is quite appealing.
