The good times are on the way back

For the first time in ages I noticed the Rangers Supporters Loyal's usual suspects on Twitter today, telling anyone who'd listen (not many), that we'd been lied to and that Gilligan and Murray were taking £5k per week in expenses between them.

One week, two weeks, 8 weeks? It's all relative. £5k for two people flying to the USA (for example) for a week or two in a decent hotel is not a big deal.

DAVID Weir has warned Rangers renaissance men not to let their standards drop after their blistering start to the season.

The Ibrox side have been in rampant form after getting their Ladbrokes Championship campaign underway with a comprehensive win over St Mirren.

And that victory, coupled with the Petrofofac Training Cup triumph over Championship rivals Hibs, have left the Light Blue legions purring.

But assistant boss Weir is adamant the team must live up to their billing as title favourites every week.

The former Ibrox skipper said: "At Rangers, in my experience, you have to put a marker down every week.

"That has to be the mentality when you become associated with a club like this – you’ve got to prove yourself every day and every week, and that’s the level we need to get back.

“We’ve got high standards and high expectations here, and we want to work towards that being the norm.”

Manager Mark Warburton has kickstarted a revolution at Ibrox and transformed a moribund players.

A clutch of arrivals has breathed new life into a team which last season crashed and burned under the pressure of trying to win promotion to the top flight.

Weir, though, is delighted with the winning blend that has been produced as the players buy into new training and playing methods.

He said: “In regards to fitness-wise we are happy. Most of the players are fit and available, and we’ve been happy with how they’ve bought into what we’re trying to do.

“We’re still quite early in that regard having only been working with them for six weeks together as a group, but there are a lot of new players we have integrated well and helped to get to know the group and the club.

“We’ve done well so far, but it is still early-doors with regards to where we want to be and putting things down that will hopefully be permanent.”

Weir knows Warburton better than anyone at Auchenhowie and Ibrox, and he reckons the new manager is settling into life at Rangers just nicely.

He told Rangers TV: “He’s enjoyed it. It’s been very busy and there has been a lot of work going on behind the scenes, on the training ground and in various departments with different things to give us a better environment going forward.

“That’s a big part of what we’ve been brought here to do. We’ve got to build the club up to where everyone wants it to be, and that won’t happen overnight.

“Wherever he goes and wherever we go, we get comments from people saying they’re right behind us, and there it a lot of goodwill towards the club doing well, and that means a lot to both of us.”
