ian1964 10,448 Posted January 18, 2016 Share Posted January 18, 2016 (edited) Rangers have regained full ownership of their trademarks and intellectual properties following repayment of the £5 million loan from Mike Ashley’s SportsDirect. The listings on the Intellectual Property Office website show all of the trademarks, which were transferred to SportsDirect as one of the conditions of the 2015 loan, are now back in the hands of The Rangers Football Club ltd. Rangers announced the loan had been repaid on Christmas Eve via the club website on Christmas Eve. As well as the ownership of the club’s badge, Ashley also took 26% of the shareholding of Rangers Retail to give him an overall grip of 75% of the joint venture with Rangers. Securities held over the Albion car park, Auchenhowie and Ibrox were discharged last week. Rangers chairman Dave King has spoken previously of wanting to get a better deal for the club from the troubled retail giant and with the club’s sponsorship deal with 32Red running out in the summer there will be an opportunity for a whole new range of kits and merchandise next season. I dread to think what would have happened to the club if the old board and regime had defaulted on this loan? That's a rhetorical question.
