Rangers-bound Jake Hastie taunted by Motherwell fans at St Johnstone game

The Well youngster will be a Light Blues player next season after signing a pre-contract with Steven Gerrard's side earlier this month.

JAKE HASTIE was taunted by Motherwell fans this afternoon in the wake of confirmation of his Rangers pre-contract.

The Well youngster’s four-year deal with Gers was announced on May 1.

During the first-half at McDiarmid Park today as the Steelmen faced St Johnstone, the 20-year-old was given pelters by his own supporters as he warmed up.

The stick continued when he came on as a second-half substitute.

@Cgoldthorp_MT of the Motherwell Times wrote on Twitter: “Jake Hastie went to warm up in front of the travelling Motherwell supporters a few minutes ago and got a LOT of verbal abuse from them.”

The Daily Mail’s @Graham_Swann added: “‘Jake Hastie, you’re a w***er,’ sing the Motherwell fans as the sub passes them during the warm-up. Good grief.”

It’s also claimed Well fans, referring to Hastie’s team-mate, chanted “You’re just a s***e David Turnbull”.

Hastie and Turnbull were recently nominated for the PFA Scotland Young Player of The Year award, picked up by Gers winger Ryan Kent.

Both starlets are up for the Football Writers’ version of the gong.

Last week Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson insisted Hastie will go to Rangers with nothing but the good wishes of the Lanarkshire club.

He said: "What I do know is that he is a really good boy.

"He has come on to the scene and is an example of someone who has knuckled down and worked hard.

"He came back, hit the ground running and there was a lot of end product. He scored goals which won us football matches.

"Of course, in an ideal world we would have liked to have kept him for another couple of years.

"But there aren't too many people in any walk of life who, offered a heck of a lot more money than we could have come up with to move 15 minutes down the road, could say no.

"So there is no bitterness, I don't take it personally. That's where we are as a football club."

That type of thing always makes me wonder how small minded and hypocritical these types are. How many of them would turn down the chance to increase their wage by hundreds of percent with the chance to be working at a far higher level in this case winning trophies and Euro football.

Plus in terms of football he’s not even going to a competitor. Their competition is bottom six while ours is top two. Truly pathetic.
