Personal view on today---man by man

Recommended Posts

Was that Morelos` first penalty in our colours? So given that he missed, he's a 100 % failure and shall not take penalties again? As if anyone of us has seen him putting them away in training ...

IMHO, all chaps were switched on yesterady and gave their all. Helander, Jack and Aribo never really let the occasion get to them and essentially "strolled" it.

McGregor and Goldson steady and doing their job.

Barisic good going forward, but little to aim at. Probably down to tiring and the conditions, his flanks and crosses late on went somewhat astray. Partnership with Kent is forming.

Kamara's duty was clearly that of the destroyer in MF and backing up any fullback (ad)ventures.

Arfield was there and not there. Industrious is probably a good description, yet, if someone plays attacking MF, I expect an attacking display. There was no real right-sided partnership with Tav.

Kent was full of running, always willing, but with essentially only Morelos to play with, oftentimes left alone facing 2 or 3 players. Link-up up with Barisic is starting to develop.

Morelos was essentially the same as Kent. Carved out chances out of nothing and with little support. Unlucky with his shots, on another day, he might have sunk 3 or 4. Had a short bout of reactionism, as some of them tried to wind him up, but steadied that.

Tavernier was doing his job well enough, but we should start testing other options for free-kicks, not least those that aim for goal.

Defoe ... was hardly involved.

Barker tried, but was faced with the same problem as Kent. IMHO, he and others should get more game time to get sharper for occasions such as these.

Katic ... too late to make an impact, then again, he was hardly tested in defence.

Them ... yep, we have to remember that there were 11 others on the park too. Haven't checked any ratings, but Foster is probably the only man who got a 10 yesterday. It was very surprising that they never really came out for this game, put us under any sort of pressure and essentially played like the rest of the Premiership, putting everyone behind the ball. I would be stunned if that was TLB's game plan, more like a role they were forced into. IMHO, they never knew how they ended up with the cup.

BTW, the German main football mag's report echoes the above, off-side goal and lack of VAR, saying that Celtic was very very lucky here.
