I felt there was a bit of similarity with the first team. The passing game in the midfield and retention of possession was good (especially given the state of the pitch) but we lacked that cutting edge in the final third. No one seemed capable of getting on the ball and playing that incisive pass to runners but instead we tended to be slow in moving the ball forward and gave the Atletico defence time to regroup and crowd us out. I also thought the Rangers defence did not seem that strong with a number of poor or hurried clearances.

He is far, far better than Michael Stewart, he played to a higher standard than Michael Stewart, achieved more in the game than Michael Stewart and, importantly to me, he is impartial - has a fondness for Rangers despite being a Hibby, but will always call out deficiencies in the Rangers performances when he sees them.
That is why he is so well-liked. People know he is being honest and without an agenda. He's a millionaire in his own right so isn't driven by money - his drive is a determination to reach the top.
Is that you Kevin? ?

Actually I think his daughter is the one who's very much in charge.
She may have been but the current directors are his two sons.

I love it. Proud to have The Donald on board. ???️
His two sons seem to be the ones in charge in what is not a very profitable business. The partnership does, however, generate publicity, good and bad depending on your perspective.

Interesting, I've had similar thoughts. I see similarities with Lovenkrands in him. Plenty of pace and ability, but possibly wasted put out on the wing. BRing him into the middle and let him run at defenders and see where he gets to...
I am less sure that bringing Kent onto the middle would be successful. Most of the teams we play are loaded in the middle and I am not sure that there would be the space for Kent to excel. Instead, I think he is more likely to be caught in possession and thus our attack will be stopped. On a number of occasions Kent does come in off the side to the centre but I tend to feel when he does this he is dribbling across the field and there is a lack of penetration. Where I do agree, is that later in games when teams are becoming stretched Kent has more space in the middle and can then run at defenders with more chance of going past them and not being stopped by another defender immediately behind the first defender.
I think we can have some success if Kent is to the left of centre as long as he works in tandem with Barisic. I would like to see Barisic on occasion playing balls into the left channel for Kent to capitalise on.

Although we played poorly I think some credit has to be given to how Hearts played. Unlike most teams we come against they did not use a defensive block. Against these sorts of teams we can dictate the tempo, establish some rhythm and have the bulk of possession. Hearts did not do that but instead they hassled our midfield and ensured they had little time on the ball. We thus got sucked into a scrappy game with the ball in the air a lot which does not suit our style. In addition, they had Clare playing down the wing which restricted Barisic (an exception was our goal) thus negating one of our strengths. On the other side Flanagan is not noted for his offensive qualities and thus the combination of these meant we were forced into a more restricted game. Upfront we missed Morelos who can occupy the centre backs much more than Defoe who doesn't have the same physicality and who is now lacking a bit of pace and therefore is not able to outrun defenders. As others have also noted hitting long balls into the box is not playing to Defoe's strength which is being a penalty box predator.
Picking up on a point may much earlier by Rousseau our lack of movement at throw-ins is dire making it difficult for players to have the time to make a telling pass and spread the play. Instead, we tend to become hemmed into a small area and it needs some bit of skill or ingenuity to make something happen.

Over the last few days there has been a raft of signings to the ladies team , does anyone know where or what team these girls have come from , I know we signed the Celtic goalie , apart from that nothing .
There has been quite a bit of information on the official website. We picked up a goalkeeper from Hibernian who seem to be imploding at the moment and have lost a number of players which is a cause for complaint on their forums. As Celtic are also gearing up it looks as though there might be some competition in the new season, between ourselves, Glasgow City and Celtic.

SG perhaps needed to freshen up the midfield by bringing on fresh legs. The problem for him was when you look at the bench he did not have available any quality midfielders. Kent was busy but not having that much joy and therefore Ojo might well have been as his best choice. You could, however, argue that given Young Boys were mainly throwing long balls into the area SG might have put on another defender but even here we did not have that many good options on the bench.

Not sure I would agree, as Feyenoord looked the poorest team to me. Having said that, I don't think there is a lot between the four teams with no one (two teams) being dominant.

Mack1950, I think you are a bit harsh on Kamara who, along with Arfield, was industrious and part of the reason our midfield outplayed them. Having said that I believe we need someone with a bit more bite and pace than Arfield. Although Kent did not have his best game he was tightly marked by Celtic players which allowed others the space to operate. I agree, however, that it would be beneficial to see Kent do his work nearer the opponent's goal rather than meandering across the pitch 40 or so yards from the goal. Leaving aside the terrific shot from Jack, today's game also showed that we need players, other than Morelos, to be stepping up and scoring goals in the big games.

Yeah I agree, and to be honest I'm not sure I would change anything, perhaps aside from bringing on Barker who I feel adds nothing. If we play like that for the rest of the season we'll win the vast majority of our games, today was a freak. It's just a shame that we couldn't get the monkey off our back.
I agree with you about Barker but there were not many options on the subs bench.

I think we should take positives from this game. Yes, we lost but we outplayed Celtic and that stands us well for the league games against them. I only had a couple of reservations about the game. Instead of sending on Defoe I think Stewart should have been put on because he might have added that bit guile when we started to chase the game and started to send balls into the area with more hope than expectation. I just hope none of our players picked up injuries that rule them out of the game on Thursday. So, let's move on and look forward to winning on Thursday and advancing in the Europa league.
