  1. He came to get his first job and build his reputation. He's done that. He's done a wonderful job. But it's clear he wants the Liverpool job eventually, and he'll not be able to go from us to that job. He needs another step. I hate to break it to you but we can't compete with (a) Villa, who spent £250M over the last season or two, or (b) the PL, the richest league in the world.
  2. You can be happily married but if Margot Robbie throws herself at you, you've got a decision to make (which divorce lawyer are you going to choose). For me, the only way he builds his reputation more is by getting a PL gig. I don't think Aston Villa are getting relegated. I agree it's not a sure thing. What happens if we lose the League this season. Does that not tarnish his reputation? There's risk everywhere.
  3. And yet you want Ally McCoist and Steven Davis in charge...
  4. Why would he go to Newcastle? It's a relegation fight, with a small chance of them staying up. It's also got a lot of expectation now with the money. The job is not attractive - at least not the first manager; the next manager will be an attractive job, when a wee bit of money has been spent to improve the squad. There's a reason why two managers turned it down. Aston Villa are a big club, with a good squad and a good budget. I don't think it'll take much to get them firing again. And, to be honest, he needs a PL job if he wants to get to the Liverpool hot seat in a few years, IMO.
  5. Surely it's because the Aston Villa job is available? You can't leave for a job that isn't available. It's the same with those that are saying he should wait until the end of the season - why would he wait when the job is available now? You can't pick and choose when a job opens up.
  6. No, of course not, but my point was he was a good appointment by Wilson.
  7. Ah. Sorry @Bill I rate Hasenhuttl. A very good coach, somewhat hampered by poor player investment.
  8. Wilson appointed David Wagner at Huddersfield too, which was a good appointment. Wagner did well at Huddersfield and is currently head coach at Young Boys in the CL after winning the Swiss league last season.
  9. I think he means Wilson, in terms of his managerial appointments. I agree that Hasenhuttl has done quite well.
  10. I think Claude Puel was good, but he was unfavourably compared to Koeman and Pochettino, who over-performed in many ways. Pellegrino and Hughes were poor. I rate Hasenhuttl quite highly, though. I don't know what we can draw from these appointments, other than a safe pair of hands (Puel and Hughes) and looking for an exciting coach (Pellegrino and Hasenhuttl), maybe?
  11. Yes, this is his first managerial appointment with us. Who did he appoint at Southampton? Was he responsible for Hasenhuttl? Edit: Claude Puel, Mauricio Pellegrino, Mark Hughes and Hasenhuttl... Eek!
  12. I'm actually quite excited. I've been quite unimpressed and bored by our performances this season.
  13. Not DeBoer, please! He's been an absolute failure everywhere he's been (apart from Ajax). I also have a sneaky suspicion that Gio might be similar, but he's not been tested yet. For me, that rules them both out, actually.
  14. Exactly. Maybe I misinterpreted, but I thought you said put Davis in charge to learn on the job, type thing? That's like a traditional 'managerial' job of the past, whereas 'managers' now are more coaches; they must develop their philosophy. I would want Davis to do his apprenticeship at a lower level club, to develop his coaching ideas and philosophy before he ever gets called up for us.
  15. OK--two points against him... ?
  16. I reckon you can identify people's ages depending on who they've voted for here.
  17. Surely Villa won't be relegated? They've got too good a squad.
  18. I can understand it, in terms of continuity, but I'm in the same boat. He clearly has the tactical ability -- that's what he brings now -- but would he still be able to do that with all the added managerial demands? And, does he have the leadership ability? There are numerous examples of good 'Number Twos' not being able to make that step up; they're best as an assistant -- although, in our history we have a supreme example of it working out in Walter Smith. Welcome to the site!
  19. You know who I would have liked, as an 'out there' name? Xavi. Unfortunately, some mid-table La Liga side have already poached him...
  20. That's not how it works.
  21. I'm aware of the fact I've glossed over Lampard. Even although he has more experience than SG, I'm not convinced. SG was clever in bringing a capable backroom team, that gave him the tactical input. I don't like Lampard, as a manager.
  22. F*ck. Off.
  23. Would Lucien Favre or Paulo Fonseca be realistic targets? Maybe too high profile? Serhiy Rebrov has done good things too, at several clubs, like Dynamo Kyiv and Ferencvaros, and he's currently in the UAE waiting for a real job!
