Another thing I can't get my head around is the hard-on some of our fans have for DA, a coach who hasn't managed a team in his career.
People mocking Martins win rate, at least he has one, unlike DA.
Neither would have been my choice and said previously that they are a much of a muchness. But at least Martin has experience managing a team.
Also, I don't think this board will care what us fans think of the appointment, they have already said they are here to make tough and unpopular decisions as these are required to get us back to where we want to be.
They haven't spent £75M to hire managers who'll expect to tell them who to sign and what to pay, nor will they bow to fan 'opinion'.
I'm sure most of us would agree that this is the correct way for them to run our club.
God still loves a trier.

From what is being said, DA wanted more input on transfers and wanted a bigger budget.
We are looking for a model where the manger / coach only coaches the team.
This model has been successful for many clubs.
We've been an utter basketcase of a club for 15 years, yet expect new owners to suddenly attract a top class manager.
If you listen to Leeds fans they'll tell you they made some very unpopular decisions at Leeds but most turned out to be the right decisions.
We just need to hope this trend continues at Rangers.
God loves a trier.

Rangers on verge of Martin appointment - what can fans expect?
He's not a coach on the way up, he's a guy on the way down, from a low peak.

Can we dismiss this low block nonsense.
No.

A failure, too, then

Maurice Ross is a strange pick.
I'm not sure where the connection is with Martin.
I don't think it matters: he'll just be an assistant with a club link, like Alex Rae, because Martin does the coaching.
Matty Gill? Where sits he in your panoply of failed hipsters?

Ultimately, Martin's CV and playing style is a perfect example of what we don’t want.
Low block an issue.Defence an issue.
Failure at set pieces.Recent managers failed to address these issues and now we seem Hell bent on bringing in another manager who has these blots on his CV. FFS!
Add in that he is a 'philosopher' who has never heard of pragmatism, far less empiricism, and who elevates style over substance, and we look done for.
Wtf is Matty Gill? And wtf has he done to warrant a job at Rangers?

Just now, alexscottislegend said:But..but..surely we have greater potential than Como or Basle?
A young fellow was struggling with his homework. His father, who was reading the paper, looked up and said
'What's the matter?'
The boy replied,
'I have to write a sentence or two explaining the difference between 'potential' and 'actual'.
His father thought for a moment, and said
'Go through to the kitchen, and ask you mother if she would sleep with a strange man for 10 grand.'
The boy does so, and confirms that she would.
His father then says,
'Go upstairs and ask your sister the same question'
Again the boy does so, and confirms his sister would do likewise.
'Well', says his father, ' potentially we are worth 20 grand, but actually we are living with a pair of whores'.

Well, let's look forward to some Podium Finishes.
You know what I mean -
Second Place in the League (but with stylish performances );
Losers in The Scottish Cup (but with a stylish performance in the Final, or Semi-Final);
Losers in the League Cup (but with a stylish performance in the Final, or Semi-Final).
Early humiliation Europe will allow RM to concentrate on avoiding a battle for 2nd/3rd/4th place, and on having decent domestic cup runs.
No matter how I look at it, I struggle to answer this old chestnut:
If Russell Martin is the answer, just what exactly is the question?

Apparently (per Fabrizio Romano): Inter Milan has asked Como for permission to open talks with Cesc Fabregas today.
No direct contact with Cesc yet as timing and final decision depends on Como, with Inter now ready to present their project to Fabregas. The implication is: Cesc Fabregas to Inter, and Davide Ancelotti to Como.
Hard decision for the boy - Glasgow or the Italian Lakes; Serie A or the Sunday Post Football League; sophisticated players who have been coached by a sophisticated player and coach, or a ragbag of second raters, who have had several managers bagged, on long contracts.
Gotta be Glasgow when you see it spelled out like that. Non?

Looks like Inzaghi has left Inter, Fabregas to Inter and then Ancelotti has decided to go to Como.
Don't Inter want Russell Martin?
No; they are after Conte.
Russell Martin a shoe-in for Napoli, thereafter.

Russell Martin proud of Scotland call-up - BBC Sport
Martin revealed his Celtic-supporting dad was delighted with the news of his call-up for the games at the Aviva Stadium on Wednesday and Sunday.
"My dad was born here and still has family here," he said. "He went south when he was fairly young but he sees himself as Scottish and he is extremely proud.
"He used to come up with my junior football teams in the summer for the Ayr Youth Cup and tie that in with seeing family.
"He would also come up and watch Celtic a fair bit.

Well, with all due respect, it is true.
Perhaps you can answer the old canard which I posted earlier, with no response:
If Russell Martin is the answer, just what, exactly, is the question?
(I am going out for a haircut, so you have some time to respond, should you choose to do so.)
