    Smith is also optimistic young defender Kyle Bartley can excel during his stay in Scotland after coming over the border from Arsenal on loan. The 20-year-old has been borrowed by Sheffield United for much of the last year and it was his performances for the Bramall Lane outfit which impressed the boss. Smith said: "Kyle's a young player who has gained a good reputation at Sheffield United on loan as he has done very well there. "Our scouts have been watching him for a good few weeks now and when we knew he was available to us, he was a player we were keen to bring in.     TBH I have no idea about this guy,nothing. Probably shouldn't have commented on him,but I was only thinking aloud on why he would leave to come here!!!. As for confident about retaining the title I'm not over excited by our signings,but the freshness might just give us the boost we need,hopefully

Aberdeen say done for the day, St Johnstone have Novikovas on loan, nothing at St Mirren, nothing from Motherwell (yet).

    Blackburn Rovers forward El Hadji Diouf is travelling to Glasgow to conduct talks with Rangers over a deadline day move, STV understands. The Senegalese international could agree a loan deal to play for the Ibrox club until the end of the season. Rangers have been working behind the scenes to add to their squad before the transfer window closes at 11pm on Monday and are hoping to persuade the striker to move north. The player would be the second forward to join the Gers within 24 hours if a deal is agreed, following the signing of David Healy from Sunderland on Sunday. Senegal star Diouf played in France for several years before joining Liverpool in 2002. Controversy has surrounded the player as he was involved in several alleged spitting incidents, including one during a UEFA Cup match with a Celtic supporter in 2003. He moved to Bolton in 2004 where he spent four seasons, and chipped in with 25 goals A season at Sunderland followed before he joined Blackburn Rovers in 2008, where he has been since.     RANGERS are attempting to complete a shock deadline busting swoop on Blackburn to hand Premiership bad boy El Hadj Diouf an escape route to Ibrox. Record Sport understands Diouf is on his way to Glasgow to put pen to paper on loan deal with the SPL champions which will keep him in Scotland until the end of the season. The move comes as Diouf attempts to recover from the latest in a long line of scandals which have repeatedly rocked his career. Just last month he was told his Ewood Park career was over after he was accused of taunting Jamie Mackie as the stricken Scotland striker lay on the pitch with a broken leg during an FA Cup tie. QPR boss Neil Warnock launched a furious attack on Diouf after the match branding him lower than a sewer rat and Blackburn manager Steve Keane then launched his own internal probe. Within days, it was clear that the Lancashire outift had decided to ditch Diouf in the January window but they failed to strike a player plus cash deal with West Brom for another Scotland international Graham Dorrans. The 30-year-old was also linked with a move to Turkey but as the options fell through Diouf was facing a long stretch on the sidelines until Walter Smith stepped in at the eleventh hour today with the offer of a short term deal at Ibrox. Diouf is already a hate figure with Celtic supporters after he was caught spitting on a Parkhead fan when playing for Liverpool in a UEFA Cup tie in 2003.     I hope to fuck this is a wind up!!!!!!! Skysports.com understands Rangers are considering a move for Hibernian forward Derek Riordan to boost their attacking options. Rangers have lost Kenny Miller to Bursaspor this month and have also missed out on Derby County attacker Kris Commons, who is poised to join Old Firm rivals Celtic. Former Celtic striker Riordan has now emerged as a potential target for Gers boss Walter Smith ahead of the closure of the transfer window. Smith is trying to improve his squad and is weighing up whether to make an offer for the Scotland international. Riordan has started Hibs' last two SPL matches on the bench and appeared as a second-half substitute in Wednesday's 2-0 home defeat by Rangers. He is out of contract at the end of the season and he would be a cut-price option for Gers in the quest to replace the departed Miller.
