Naismith was a great player for us in the past but clearly seems to be past his best now.

For free perhaps he'd be a clever signing until the end of the season but as much as I'd fancy most will forgive him for his 2012 actions, many will not so I don't see the point of making a temporary loan signing which will divide supporters (and perhaps even the dressing room).

We've signed Murphy and are, IMO, likely to sign Docherty and hopefully Jones.  If we can also add Cummings then it will have been a very good window so we don't need Naismith.

I'm inclined to agree regarding Naismith. I really hope we do sign Docherty and if we could get Cummings on loan that would be excellent. However, I haven't seen enough of Jones to pass judgement - okay he played well against us but so did O'Halloran and it hasn't worked out for him (yet).

  2. Laudrup had previously suggested that he wouldn't be interested in managing a club where he was expected to win all the time. Not sure if that would rule is out or whether it still applies.

I'd be happy with Monk. I think he'd do a good job for us.

If that's true I'm not surprised he's managing out in Qatar where no-one really notices

  3. From what I heard at the game last night in my mates box is that McLean and Walker have been tentatively agreed but we also had an agreement with Moult who moved the goalposts at the last minute so who knows. Extra bodies will be handy but neither having a great season so won't be massively upset if they don't happen. I'd like to see us take a punt on that left winger at Killie, having a good season and Killie are always looking to sell. Too often we wait til the Championship clubs are sniffing around so we need to act a bit quicker and smarter

McLean and Walker tentatively agreed for January or summer 2018?

  4. Of our loanees, Toral seems to be out of contract this summer, only a half-dubious source claims that he has signed a new deal with Arsenal.

Hyndman has a long contract with an EPL team and given his displays, which won't have go unnoticed in England, the best we can hope for is another loan. He'd sure cost 1.5 to 2.5m plus in the current English market, if not more.

Dorrans is an experienced and solid DM, and we have to remind ourselves that we'll have not that many central / defensive midfielders left this summer, as things stand right now.

I'm sure when Toral signed he said he had another year at Arsenal. That should clear up your half dubious source.

  5. I think he's looking for someone to fill the role Sandy Jardine did with Le Guen - someone to explain the rivalries and customs in Scottish football, the grounds, the atmospheres.

I don't think he's looking for a Scottish assistant coach

  6. Its certainly all gone quiet on the managerial front, for both the expected short term appointment and what we're going to do longer term.

Not necessarily. It just means there are no leaks.

Perhaps new manager isn't available until the summer and Murty will remain in charge

  7. One of the ch targets, at least, and Barton alongside the big African guy who went to Leeds. I really can't remember pursuit of a striker, to be honest, other than Garner, who scored a good goal on Sunday, but otherwise manages to look both energetic and dud. I am told that Garner would be good in a two, up front; at some point we may see the reality of this.

Do you mean Toumani Diagouraga? A defenensive midfielder who has now been loaned out by Leeds to Ipswich? Or do you mean Joleon Lescott or Adrian Mariappa as the centre halves we went for before signing Senderos?

  8. Is Cummings going to have us challenging Celtic for the title next season? No. So let's find someone who will.

These promising, young(ish) Scottish players rarely amount to anything. Goodwillie, Riordan, Fyvie etc.

I can only hope we have a team of scouts abroad trying to identify decent players for the summer...

For every one that amounts to nothing there are some who go on to do reasonably well - Kenny Miller, Griffiths, Snodgrass etc

  9. Now been charged with betting on 44 games since joining Rangers.

    Although none involved Rangers.

Did he know the rules regards betting?

Seems crazy a club can be sponsored by 32Red or dafabet and a trophy by William Hill but players can't bet on games in a competition they're not involved in.

  10. Hopefully Senderos can make a difference to a very shaky defence especially when defending corners and set pieces. His arrival may also give us a presence in the opposition box on the odd occasion we don't opt for the short corner.

He's been training with us for the best part of two weeks so will know the players and hopefully he's fit enough to play a part in the game on the 10th.
