Other big clubs have decent youth development, scouting, general resources, playing style, ethos etc. We don't have any of this. When our new manager is appointed he will use his own philosophy and bring in his own players. If that fails in a year or 2 the same thing will happen with his replacement. This isn't how to operate a successful football club.

This is what Mark Allan has been doing since he was appointed.

And I would also say out Youth Academy is above ‘decent’ and has been for a couple of years now.

I posted a video a while showing how Pep had actually been learning to coach for years prior to being Barca B coach; he had ideas and principles developed from those coaches he looked up to. I'm not sure Gerard is at that level.

I agree with the premise of your point, though; it shouldn't write you off, but they do need to demonstrate their ideas on the game.

Yeh that’s all my point is.

Some will say because Murty has failed we should never touch a youth coach when there has been success elsewhere.

Every top manager has been given a break at some point.

  3. Just a small point on Gerrard being an U18s coach.

Remember Pep was the Barca B coach for only one season then got the top job. Of course there would be risks but just because you are a youth coach shouldn’t write you off.

There are negatives -- although your's is just local culture I presume, so he'll not be doing that here!

It's a big step up for him. It's a good step for him.

For us, maybe too much of a gamble? Again...

He has said that himself he wouldn’t be doing things like that in other places but totally agree maybe too much of a gamble.

There just insn’t an obvious choice out there.

I would be excited be Potter, but it would be quite a step up for him. He plays a modern game.

He talks about the half-space and overloads!! :x

I have watched alot about him. I am honestly not sure, my mind keeps changing (as it does with de Boer)

I like he is a modern manager.

I like he has had the balls to leave England and make a name for himself.

I like he has had success. Heard what he has done being compared to taking Stenhousemuir from League Two to Europa League.

He has Billy Reid as his assistant which could help in Scotland too.

At the same time I see him and his players rehersing for plays in the town hall and thinking he will be treated as a joke from day one by the media here.

    I just don’t know ?

Lol we are one million miles away from looking very good next season. We literally need an entire new squad.

I take you’re point but I had said elsewhere that on paper I counted we have a squad of 30 first team players - I include Forrester & Pena in that.

Next season IMO we should be using whatever budget we have and going with a smaller squad (maybe 18) and adding academy players when needed.

Bringing in 5 or 6 quality players, as I said two centre backs, two midfielders and a striker I think we wouldn’t be far away at all.

I would much rather than than sign 10 average players like we have been doing in the last 2 years.

    Just my opinion though.

It's part of the rationale for having a director of football.

You can continue signing players according to your strategy regardless of whether or not a manager is likely to continue.

May well have protected us from signing someone like Carlos Peña too.

People in Scotland still don’t get the idea of a modern day DoF, hopefully it becomes more clear over the summer.

You’re point regarding Pena (and Herrera, Cardoso, Dalcio..) is spot on.

Hopefully this is the last time we see wholesale changes over a summer transfer window.

  8. As soon as those fixtures were announced you just know this was gonna happen.

Perhaps we may get lucky and get a draw, our team have some sort of mental block against that mob for some reason.
