Croatia were shot, mentally and physically; they just couldn't string two passes together.

Denmark weren't great either, but they made it work tactically.

Croatia did this last time too: looked like real favourites, rest players in the third group game, then lose the plot in the knock-out stages. They were very fortunate to get through.

Let's hope the real Croatia turn up; that wasn't it.

That's what 120 minutes of getting leaned on does to you. The Danes towered over the Croats and used their size and strength to both bully the pitch and channel movement. The only Croat goal was the benefit of a lucky bounce off a Dane which put the ball at the foot of Mandzukic. If the Danes had anyone who could push the tempo in the latter stages (notice Sisto sub in 80+ minute?) they may have taken it in regulation. They were frequently threatening in the Croat zone, just not enough offensive skill to bag one. Yet, this was a beautifully coached game on the Dane side...lovely thing.  Just not lucky in the end.

Rangers are close to completing another loan deal for Lassana Coulibaly of Angers in France. The 22 year old Malian international plays in midfield and should join Umar Sadiq at the club assuming both are granted work permits in the coming days.

This move makes little sense. Though I understand the thought process in that Coulibaly is a highly versatile player (CM/LM/RM/DM) he brings no skill set that we do not already possess. Not smart.

I think we can read into it that they're fit enough to play 90 minutes of professional football and much fitter than we are but in Gerrard's view not as fit as they could be. I have seen players running out of gas and effectively slowing down as the second half progresses.

If we're going to be playing the high intensity Liverpool style that's hard to maintain for 90 minutes if you're not as fit as you possibly can be.

And if indeed that is the way we're going to be playing which as yet is still an unknown i'm going to be interested to see if it pushes any opposition into the realms of exhaustion in the last quarter or so of the game. Because they're going to have to keep up with that high intensity if that's how we play it.

mmm...yeah thanks. I think that is a good point...very good. They are unfit for the style he would prefer. Yes...I think that is another thing to ponder. A high paced style based upon sheer fitness can be a distinct advantage in the latter stages of a contest. Cool...thanks main!

It’s still not called English football.

Really...well guess what home slice...I call it that. However...in YOUR honor, your grace, I will now refer to English Football as Billyball. You can now die, forever memorialized in the mind of at least one person on this rock.

    Congratulations.

    “English football”

    Wtf?

Though people have kicked animal bladders around since time's beginning the English were the first to formalize and codify the game we see today. Cambridge Rules of 1848 and subsequently, the FA (1870's? too lazy) gave us the start of the modern game. They wrote the book on it...to them go the honor.

  6. You know, with all the cash these teams are getting...markets are markets. Being flush with cash like the EPL is, this may be a real bid. Especially when you look at the transfer fees that the top tier of the league are forking out.

New Chinese owners...TV deal slice...7M is chump change.

"Given that the vast £8.4bn TV deals from 2016-19 meant that homely Saints received £122m as their share last season, it will be interesting to watch how much additional investment the Gaos come to believe is really necessary."
