League Cup SF draw

Recommended Posts

Weekend date now which is brilliant, better for attendances.

I remember last year, semi final v st johnstone, snowing wednesday night :( not good !

Especially with 4 of the big teams in it, attendances should be good

RANGERS will play their Co-operartive Insurance Cup semi-final on a weekend breaking with recent tradition.

For years the semi-finals of the League Cup competition have taken place in midweek and fans were expecting a February 1 and February 2 date this season.

However, the matches will be played oin Saturday, January 29 and Sunday, January 30 after the SPL clubs called for weekend dates this season after discusions in February.

Rangers will learn their fate today at 2.30pm when the draw is made at Hampden. Aberdeen, Celtic and Motherwell lie in wait in the last four in what is the final year of Co-operative Insurance's sponsorship of the tournament.

The weekend semi-finals means that the schedued SPL fixture on January 29 - Inverness Caley Thistle at home - will now need to be moved.

An SFL spokesman said: "Weekend semi-fnals is something we have wanted to do for some time now but the SPL clubs were always against it.

"However, when we had discussions in February this year the clubs said they were n favour of weekend games."

If Rangers and Celtic are not drawn together then both semi-finals will be played at Hampden. BBC Scotland have rights for live coverage of one semi-final and with the FA Cup 4th round on ESPN and ITV that weekend scheduling might be tricky.
