Talking about being a pro for 25 years. Good viewing.

This is definitely pedantic.... but he wasnt a pro for 25 yrs was he ? He is 41 now, so would have been 16 when he turned pro. But I thought he turned pro late (when he was 22) because he went to college first, no ?

I thought that too but let it go. After you mentioned it I did a wee Wiki search on him - Falkirk was his 1st pro club and played his 1st game for them in 1992.

Just noticed who he plays for now, Hallwood FC (Runcorn). I thought he'd have found a better club than them to sign for.

Yeah, I would have thought he would have found someone better too. Although, it is close to Liverpool and he probably wanted a club reasonably close to his family.

To be honest, all this should have happened last year, for many various reasons, but money, or our lack of it and his unlikelyhood of playing much for us being the main ones.

He needs to get himself into coaching now instead of running around attacking folk with his pension book to let him play.

In his defence, there are many players who find themselves addicted to the game, and refuse to give it up even when their body is telling them to do so and they're simply too old for it.

When he left us, it was soddingly obvious, to me at least, that he wasn't going to get any kind of decent club at even League 3 England level.

He's ended up in the Warrington & District Football League, fifth division of it. Whatever that is.

I don't even think they're at the level of amateurs tbh. He probably isn't being paid.

What you say is true and I understand it precisely, but having to hear about it and debate it still comes down to the same old scenario. He's really past it and someone should have a quiet word in his ear.

Surely he'd be better off trying to continue his career in football by coaching?

Why couldnt he do both.

He is past it at OUR level - but his brain is quick enough to make up, for the most part, for what the body is lacking. And with the team he is playing against it is more like leisure time football than competitive. No harm in him continuing.

I would suggest at some point you've got to make a decision. Coach or play!

If he still wants to play, then he's at the right level, yes, but I would've thought someone of David Weirs stature would have wnated to continue in the game at the highest level.

I accept that I could be wrong though as I don't know David Weir at all, so I can't say for sure what motivates the man. I can guess from previous interviews he's given, but I can't know for sure, even if I did know him well as a friend.
