How Many Schemes to Save Rangers Are There

Recommended Posts

After years of ignorance and apathy ... much debated on here and every other boards, chilledbear, nothing that brings Rangers fans together and let them show their support for the cause should be undermined. Whether it is small or large gestures, simple pledges or people actively doing something, the momentum should be kept and any future owner made aware that we don't want another SDM/Whyte scenario again. The sooner we get the fans together and create a membership scheme or share issue that is not solely driven by a chairman or board to raise money to distribute by themselves, the better. At least in my humble opinion.

You have echoed my post.

'The sooner we get the fans together'

I also agree it is important there is a membership scheme or share issue.

Many Bears over the various forums and including here, have been advocating for a few years now for a supporters fund linked to helping our club. I was involved at the very early stages with trying to get one of the ground, but because of the complexities of setting it up, it never got off the ground.

Hopefully now with our club on the brink, we can finally get one up and running. I pledged my £1k to the Save Rangers without reading the small print, i now realise it has been set up to buy shares in the Blue Knight takeover. I'm still interested in the idea of part ownership by the support so part of my pledge is going to be honoured to Save Rangers. With this new initiative from Walter and Ally i will give them half of my original pledge to SR as the Rangers Fighting Fund will do the job i thought the SR fund would do, namely save my club from liquidation.

If we could change the names round in the two funds it would more accurately describe both fund ethos's.

Maybe one day both funds will be brought under the one umbrella and used by the support to help the club but also to be used as a vehicle to supporters part ownership of our club.

To be honest if I give money to Rangers, I would like to have something solid like shares in return.

I would not give money to see it disappear down an empty hole, I want to know where it is going, and someone I trust who is accountable for it.

IMHO, creating a membership scheme that is lead/fronted by some diehard and trusted Rangers men (e.g. Walter Smith) is the way to get the club forward. Membership can be structured along the lines of the Motherwell scheme, a certain annual income would be more or less secured and members will have a say - via their president et al - amongst the directors or next to the chairman. That is how (AFAIK) in Germany.

IMHO, a share issue is a short time investment and while people may sign up for a 1,000 share or the like, their position towards a chairman or other directors would still remain "minimal". And we all know how much influence AGMs or people speaking on behalf of a bulk of shareholders have, not just at Rangers, but all over Britain.
