Regan defends sanctions

Recommended Posts

Stewart Regan has stood by the decision of a Scottish Football Association to impose sanctions on Rangers for five breaches of the governing bodyâ??s rules.

The chief executive and his organisation are under fire from supporters, with the Ibrox club having been fined £160,000 and banned from registering new players for 12 months.

â??In light of last nightâ??s outcome from the Judicial Panel Tribunal, it is important to clarify the process through which such cases are heard,â? Regan said in a statement on Tuesday.

â??The Judicial Panel Tribunal is an independent body made up of three members appointed from a list of more than 100.

â??The implementation of the Judicial Panel process was approved unanimously by all member clubs at last yearâ??s Annual General Meeting to bring efficiency, transparency and independence to the execution of football rules.

â??The Scottish FA acted on the advice of our members to implement a robust disciplinary system that reflected the demands of the modern game.

â??The sanctions imposed by the Judicial Panel Tribunal last night are subject to appeal. As the Scottish FA is the appellate body, it is inappropriate to discuss the findings of this particular Tribunal at this stage.

â??I can fully understand the fear and frustration felt by all Rangers fans throughout the most difficult period in the clubâ??s history.

â??The Scottish FA has a responsibility to all its members and must implement its rules without fear or favour.â?

Regan also stated his belief that Rangers are needed in Scottish football for the game to thrive but again stated the requirement of the Scottish FA to act fairly.

â??It is important the Scottish FA, as the governing body, works in association with the Scottish Premier League and Scottish Football League to reinvigorate the national sport," he said.

â??Rangers have been part of the fabric of Scottish footballâ??s history and are integral to its future prosperity.

â??The Scottish FA must act with integrity and with the best interests of the game at heart. It is with this in mind that we await any appeal from the club.â?

"Integral to its future prosperity". Yep, Regan admits that Scottish football needs Rangers and needs its fans and its cash. Which is all the more reason, IMO, that we hit them ALL where it hurts most, in the pocket.

It may be knee-jerk and it may be cutting noses off to spite faces - but I am gradually coming round to the idea of resigning our SPL position.

However, with a very large caveat that we would need to fully analyse just what the consequences of that would be. We would lose players for cut price, the gates at Ibrox wouldnt be as large (I would like to think that the adversity would galvanise us though into supporting the club regardless, and we could help boost the coffers of some of Scottish football's smaller clubs with less greed on their minds by travelling to their ground) and we could stick it to the SPL & SFA.

As for the "best interests of the game at heart" - he thinks these sanctions are with the best interests of the game at heart ? By stifling and crippling us from an administration process that was already fraught with perils. Aye, OK, Stewart - was it Pete that provided that statement to you ? The only surprise is you didnt use the "sporting integrity" bullshit mantra of Lawell's.

Corrupt organisation run by complete inept buffoons. No surprise that the SFA have become a major laughing stock since Regan took the helm. He has no idea what he is doing.

"Regan talking out of both sides of his mouth" shocker.

He and Scotland need us, and yet they're taking out insane sanctions designed to squeeze the life out of us. He might just be the worst CE I've seen, and I've seen Farry, Taylor, Smith.

Would this be a time for supporters to call for a boycott of some or all of the SFA's corporate sponsors? I am curious how Adidas for example would react to a total boycott of their products?

SFA sanctions force any bidder to be willing to absorb years of losses.

The club (administrators) are going to appeal and we don't know what the outcome of the appeal will be.

No harm in contacting them all to let them know our intentions.
