TURKISH giants Trabzonspor are preparing to offer Rangers midfielder Maurice Edu an escape route from Ibrox.

Edu has made 125 appearances for the Glasgow giants and has won three SPL titles and two League Cups since Walter Smith signed the USA international from Toronto FC for £2m in 2008.

However, the 26-year-old had a £300,000 get-out clause inserted in his contract when he and his high-earning team-mates agreed to a 75% wage cut so that Rangers could pay their way until the end of the season after being plunged into administration.

Trabzonspor will be a seeded team in the play-off round for the Europa League after finish third in Turkey last season and finished third in Group B of the Champions League last season in spite of losing only one of their six matches and beating Inter Milan in the San Siro.

The only certainty surrounding Rangers at the moment is that they wonâ??t be playing in Europe next season â?? and that could test Eduâ??s loyalty.

I've been able to play in the Champions League now and once you get a taste of it you want to play in it more and more

Rangers midfielder Maurice Edu

"I've been able to play in the Champions League now and once you get a taste of it you want to play in it more and more, said Edu on Monday."Hopefully, Rangers are playing at the top level in Europe again soon but the way things are going right now it may take a while.

Trabzonspor are hoping that the lure of Continental competition (plus an improvement on his weekly wage at Ibrox) will persuade him to move to the Huseyin Avni Aker stadium.

Trabzonspor are managed by Senol Gunes, the coach who guided Turkey to third place at the World Cup finals in Japan 10 years ago and he wants to Edu to join former Spurs and Seville hard man Didier Zakora and Polandâ??s Euro 2012 star Adrian Mierzejewski in their midfield.

£5m and he can go. Turned him from a kid into an experienced international and a winner with many medals to his name and added Champions League goals and experience too. Easily doubled his value of the price we paid for him.

Absolutely no way will we get 5 mill for him, even if he didnt have a release clause.

I get what you are saying but a player is only worth what someone is willing to spend - and nobody would be willing to spend 5 mill on Edu.

didn't he say recently he wanted to stay, we'll soon see.....

Difficult to tell.

He said the club allowed him to realise his boyhood dreams of CL football and that he couldnt have walked out on the club given that. Doesnt technically say he wants to stay though.

One thing that seems to be relatively common with US players though is that when they find themselves a club they are happy with they do tend to stay pretty loyal.

Edu, Dempsey, Donovan. Of course there are others who havent been so loyal but it is somewhat of a trait for them.

Then we don't sell. Sick of us accepting stupid offers for players. I thought those days had gone when we rejected a few offers for Jelavic, only to accept the lowest offer made. :(

How many players do we need to take a loss on before we wake up and finally hire a proper CEO who knows what they are doing?

We wouldn't get £5m if we weren't in administration never mind being in it. £2m at a push!!! We wouldn't miss him if he left. He's a decent player, no more and no less.

If he has a release clause we cant prevent it.

You think turning him into a better player deserves us taking a loss on him?
