Is this the model we need to follow?

Very long article but well worth the read on Dortmund's turnaround from brink of bankruptcy: http://swissramble.blogspot.de/2012/10/borussia-dortmund-back-in-game.html

Obviously the figures are inflated for what is achievable in Scottish football, but the jist should be the same.

They won the Bundesliga with one of the best records ever on a wages to turnover ratio of 44%.

Once they cleared the debt they focused on Youth development including a special academy for developing 19-23 year old players which use to be ran by former Gers player Christian Nerlinger.

We are obviously going the right way at the moment with youth players but that is more of a result of our current situation. Look at some of the players we have let go who turned out to be very good SPL players, Andy Shinnie is the obvious one at the moment. CG is making the right noises but this article hopefully offers reassurance that a prudent approach can be successful in the long run.

PS Maybe that could be our way of competing financially. We can't compete with the tv money but we could earn as much from gate sales as Dortmund and then go for their standard of commercial revenue.

Dortmund stadium holds 80.000 supporters we can't get near their gate money.
