The 33-year-old was shown the cards in the late stages of Saturday's Bell's Scottish League Division One defeat against Clyde. He was booked for grabbing the ball from Clyde goalkeeper David Hutton, shown a second yellow and subsequent red card for clashing with opponent Eddie Malone, and then red-carded twice again as his temper boiled over. A statement from Dundee declared: "Following the disciplinary problems at Clyde FC on the 16th of December regarding our player Andy McLaren, the club and the player have held frank and open discussions regarding the matter, and it has been mutually agreed to terminate Andy McLaren's contract forthwith. "Whilst the club won't condone such indiscipline, it does though respect the player's willingness to accept that his actions have brought the club into disrepute, and we sincerely wish him well for the future." McLaren, who won his one Scotland cap against Poland in 2001, includes Reading, Dundee United, Kilmarnock and Partick among his former clubs. He joined Dundee from Morton in July. Dundee boss Alex Rae predicted the Scottish Football Association would "throw the book" at McLaren after his three red cards.
