Unfortunately the ref doesn't get "to rewind the video.......... and watch a slow motion replay a couple of times", he is inside and in front of the action and would have seen the studs up challenge. Football isn't played in slow motion, it's played at a fast pace and I wouldn't like to say whether Peralta pulled out or not; but it doesn't look that way to me at full speed.

Unfortunately for referees, just because they don't have the benefit of a replay is no excuse for them when they make a wrong decision and in the case of a straight red card quite early in a match like we saw Madden hand out yesterday, it's quite a serious mistake. It shows that neither he or his linesmen had a good enough view of what actually happened in real-time to be able to make the correct decision and that means the referee shouldn't have given a red card.

A straight red is a serious matter in football and it shouldn't be underplayed or taken lightly because ultimately if none of the officials have a good enough view, then it's the player who should be getting the benefit of the doubt, not the referee and his assistants after they've made a mistake. Maybe Madden should get the automatic suspension instead of Peralta since it was Madden who made the biggest error in judgement.

Referees are subject to reports by the Clubs as well as supervisors and can be downgraded as a result of poor performances.

It will be interesting to see if Rangers appeal.

Rangers (ally) should be saying that they have no problem with the red card, however, they expect similar challenges on our own players to be treated similarly. That is all we need, consistency from the refs.

Unfortunately the reality is that the refs are fairly consistently inconsistent in this respect.

There must have been 3 or 4 similar challenges in the Airdrie game(which got yellow cards)to the one for which Peralta got a straight red.Inconsistent refereeing in my book.
