Dundee release two players after they watch rivals Dundee United...

...in Scottish League Cup final.

Dundee FC have released youth players Liam Fitzsimons and Josh Mackenzie after the pair made the journey to Hampden Park together to support the club’s arch rivals Dundee United in the Scottish League Cup final against Celtic.

The 16 year olds are both lifelong United fans and claim that the reason for their contracts being terminated was their decision to travel to watch Dundee’s nemesis, though whether this is true or not remains to be seen. Because if there’s one thing we know, it’s that everything a 16 year old boy says when in trouble is gospel.

Taking to Twitter to vent his frustrations, Fitzsimons claims he was released for not being loyal to his current club but there are many examples of footballers doing similar. Aberdeen’s Niall McGinn regularly goes to watch title rivals, and boyhood club, Celtic, Mario Balotelli wore an AC Milan shirt on TV while still playing for Inter and Sol Campbell spent an extended period of his career playing for Arsenal.

Time they were combined into Dundee City anyway.

Dundee isn't big enough to support to full time SPL clubs.

When you amalgamate two average sized organisations...you end up with an average sized organisation.
