20s Head For St Mirren

Recommended Posts

RANGERS under-20s take on St Mirren this evening, and they will be looking to build on last week’s game with Hearts where they came from behind to draw 2-2.

The Jambos raced into an early lead thanks to Wilson Carvalho before they extended their advantage just after the hour mark through Gary Oliver.

But in the final 10 minutes, Ryan Hardie and Jamie Brandon brought Ian Durrant’s youngsters level to gain a point from what was the first league game of the season.

St Mirren opened their season up with a 2-0 reverse to Aberdeen in Pitmedden, and tonight they could potentially field a number of their more experienced players who failed to appear in their first-team’s 3-1 defeat at Ibrox on Friday.

Last season, the Buddies finished 13th in the 17-team Development League, with the two meetings between the two sides ending in a 1-1 draw and a 3-1 success for Rangers.

Speaking after last week’s game with Hearts, boss Durrant said: “Both goals they gave away were preventable but I said there are going to be mistakes and it’s how they learn from those.

“They dug deep and there are aspects of the game that we’ll sit down with the video and analyse with them and we’ll go out again.

“We did struggle at the start of last season but we’ve picked up a point now when we thought we were down so it’s another boost and something to build on.

“We’ll go into the St Mirren game and mentally and physically we will be stronger again and I’ll drum the positives into them and we can’t wait for the next game now.”

Kick-off at St Mirren Park is at 6pm, and you can keep-up with all the action by following @RFC_Youth on Twitter.

How did Andy Murdoch play? Slightly surprising to not see him as part of the first team squad, but hopefully MW views him as someone that can learn from the likes of Eustace and become a better all round player. I do think that Andy Halliday has been superb in that position so far, so no arguing with the decision to play him at the U20 level.
