Come come D'Art ................. surely these 'so-called' journalists are too clever to ever get caught "morally over reacting" :D

They also appear to think they above normal codes of morality. If you follow Frankie & myself on twitter we challenged Keith Jackson as he obviously went on a fishing trip yesterday, but he refused to engage with either of us or discuss the double standards of morality on display from the journalistic community.

Make no mistake abusing journalists online is not only wrong, it is counter -productive and Ive no doubt they will circle wagons and run with a story about Rangers fans driving journalists off social media.

What they will not run with however, is that a journalistic community which condemns Rangers fans for sectarian singing is unilateraly silent about sectarian tweets on some journos timelines.[/quote']

Mate, I do follow both you and Frankie on twitter, and both of you do a great job challenging them,it is so apparent that they refuse to endulge in an honest debate and use the fact that they receive abuse from fans on twitter, which I agree abusing them is wrong and counter productive, however they do use it as en excuse, they also like to take the moral high ground and they believe they are untouchable and are very condescending which doesn't do them any favours!.

Luckily the likes of you and Frankie at least keep the pressure on,even though you get ignored it is there for all to see and does expose them, keep up the good work both of you.

That may be the case D'Art, but in the case of Ms Hamilton she wasn't driven off social media at all. She was merely found out to have been making sectarian tweets prior to her "article" and LEFT Twitter as soon as she was found out in order to avoid having to defend her position.

The fact that her fellow journalists (And Calum Steele of Police Fed Scotland) then circled the wagons was absolutely nothing to do with her being abused but was simply to project a moral superiority.

I read pretty much every tweet that was posted after her article was posted by her - and the worst abuse I saw of her was someone calling her a "boot" and that she uses too much make up.

The abuse wasn't that great at all. But here is the rub.... journalists love to tell us that professional footballers lives are fair game because they are "public figures" - so, that being the case, the journalists who are creating news stories likewise are "public figures" and therefore should be fair game when it comes to constructive criticism.

However, our support need to show more constraint if we want to win the battle - abusing people will never, ever win you the fight, even when you already have the moral high ground and even when you already have the facts on your side. Having everything to defend you should result in a victory, no matter how small or large. If you go on an abusive offensive you will undoubtedly score an own goal with the scores tied deep into injury time.

Abuse never wins the day because it allows journalists to show mock outrage and shift the focus from the real story to the "unacceptable abuse of journalists leading to them being hounded off twitter".
