Alves playing for Portugal.

Saw twenty minutes. No tackles. Two headers out straight to opposition. One header missed - chance to Chile. One daft foul embracing opponent right in front of ref. Otherwise marking space.

Konterman? Surely not again.

He got a yellow card for leading with his arm.

The big decision was that the video referee shat it on making a penalty decision for Chile. definite penalty which they must have seen the replay and bottled it to intervene. Pity as it takes away from the meaning why they are there.

Not sure about who deserved it more. Chile had the odd glimpse of quality, but really struggled through the whole of the second half. Essentially both teams defences were far too strong for the "weak" attackers, which says something when we talk of Ronaldo, Sanchez, et al.

Ref had a few strange decisions, long before the penalty he denied the Portuguese a free kick close to the area when Carvalho (methinks) was laid low with a foot to the shinguard. As clear cut as this was, as "unclear" was the penalty not given, as the ref had two players in line of sight. You wonder though what the video-ref was for then. Could have cleared both situations.

From that game alone, Alves looked quality (well, he would not be there if he wasn't) ... and he was up against some of the finest on the planet. Wonder when he will join up with the team now, having played footies essentially since last summer.

Anyone else out there sharing a healthy dislike for Arturo Vidal?
