Former Rangers boss in Black Cats frame?

09:16 June, 26, 2006

Alex McLeish has emerged as a contender to become the new Sunderland manager

McLeish stepped down from his role as Rangers manager at the end of last season and has said in the past that he would like to continue his career in England.

Sunderland's prospective new owners, led by former star Niall Quinn, want Martin O'Neill as their next boss but he has yet to confirm whether he does want a return to club management while weekend reports have linked him with the job of Australian national team boss.

Guus Hiddink to Eck what a let down that will be.
