Seemingly the real reason we are called the light blues is nothing to do with the colour of the strip. It refers to the youthfulness and lightness of build of our players in the early days compared to the older physical teams. It stems from a newspaper article in 1877. It called the Rangers" the Light and speedy blues." The name was later shortened to the light blues for short.

 

And no Craig,Jon or Gribz i was not present at the time.:mad::P

 

 

I've never heard that explanation, I always remember Dundee being the Dark Blue and us the Light Blues, as Wija says.
