  1. Delighted with the transfer window.  Even better was the players who opted for us instead of the mhanks.  Tim's are raging!  Weve brought in some very exciting players and have Lowry and McCann coming through, two players I have very high hopes for.  It was sad to see big shirley go but his sale along with Aribo has made Rangers a very attractive proposition to any young talent,  Lovelace being the latest to jump the border.  A few should go,  kamara, kelly and sakala topping my list. I think kent should go for his own sake.  Scottish football is strangling him,  his performances in the europa showed what hes capable of.  A more competitive league may be better for him I think.

My question was more rhethorical. IF we buy someone for 5m, he sure is signed to be a starter, which leaves the question, what we`ll do with Borna. Usually, you want a couple of top quality guys for each position, so after a phase of introduction, you`d expect a 5m signing (if it happens) is the first choice.

On a related note, IMHO we overdid that with Kent, who, as a 7m-signing was played no matter what.

I'd give him away for free.

Why did no-one covered the run of the scorer? See, easy to blame anyone. 😋

Didn`t see the first half, we looked rather comfortable till the fistful of subs. Arfield as fit as a youngster, chasing people all over the pitch causing havoc, Davis a joy to behold in that deep role. Colak a pest for any defender, did well again.

Wonder why Gio put on King as rightback instead of Devine and/or Zukowski, the former he put at leftback.

Davis never followed his man for their goal.   Thought the second string played better than first.   I feel for colak.  No service to him at all.  Our lack of creativity  is alarming.

Getting close to the squad's Monday flight to Portugal with no business of note yet having been done, in or out. It looks as if we wanted Colak on board for the week on the Iberian peninsular but that is looking increasingly unlikely.

The closer to the CL qualifiers we get, the more likely it is going to be a case of relying on the same old. Generally, that doesn't tend to work out well, regardless of how well in Europe we went the season just ended.

After the epic 92/93 season, we went out in our first tie against Levski Sofia.

In the summer of 2008, we left our main recruitment drive until AFTER Kaunas had put us out.

In the worst case scenario this season, we will play at least 8 games in Europe.

Absolute minimum, that first CL qualifer is worth about 7M euros on it's own. Winning it would guarantee a 5M consolation payment if we were to go out of the Play off round, plus an extra home tie (gate money etc.).

If you consider whatever our transfer budget might be this summer, an extra incoming 7M euros has to be huge.

30 days until the competitive KO, with the CL qualifier a few days later.

I hope we use the time to act in a timely fashion.

We dont look like we are taking the CL seriously.    You would have thought targets would have been identified and players brought in by now.   The board need to get it together and fast.   This is a real slap in the face to the fans who have backed the team to hilt with their wallets for little return.

Last time I checked, Goldson was just one of around 30-40 players that have contributed to the last four years - the good and the very bad.  And I don't think we had any right to expect many more trophies given where we've been in the last ten years.  Progress is slow but as our deputy skipper I think his contribution has been mainly positive and he was out PotY last season.

Now, I posted several sentences detailing why I think it's a good move whilst acknowledging the flaws.  The least you could do in the spirit of the forum is to do more than troll in response.  Offer an alternative player signing, discuss his flaws in greater detail, write 1000 words on why we're not progressing and why Goldson should not have been given a new contract.

Anything else is just tedious noise and I'd respectfully suggest you avoid such in future.

I make no apologies for having  an opinion of my own.  In my opinion hes not good enough for where we want to be.

you were right lol. we went of to the EL finals ffs.

that's quite a bit of self delusion.

After getting horsed by a pub team in The CL qualifiers.   Blew the league as well.   Your the one that's deluded.

You're judging our defence on their worst performance of the season?

    That's ridiculous.

Did Liverpool fans judge their 2020/21 defence on their hammering at Villa?  Of couse not.

I used them as examples the pick if the bunch so to speak.  Sorry it's not what you want to hear.  I find it ridiculous that people like yourself continually endorse the mediocrity in our squad.  I called out the squad after the Malmo debacle only to be lambisted by the "we havent clicked yet gang"  and it turned out I was right.  And I fear I will be right again this time around while others put their faith in blind hope.

  8. The league is our bread and butter and we were well short of the mark last season.   I expected a clearout last summer but it never materialised.   Too many players in my eyes had ran the course at Ibrox and should have been moved on.   Kent Aribo hagi kamara threaten to be top players but I fear I will be collecting  my pension before they ever do.     As for our defence.... absolutely terrible.   League cup semi final and the 3 0 drubbing are testament to the quality we really have.  As for our manager..I'm not 100 percent sure he is the man for the job.  Too many Jekyll and Hyde performances for me .   We had the league in our hands and he let it slip.   If his plan is just to resign all the same players again then were in for a long hard season.  We have to up our game in the transfer market if we want to try and compete in the CL and the league.  We need fresh faces and new ideas on the park.   Hoping the current squad suddenly find form and blind faith wont cut it for me.  This transfer window better be a good one.

There's no doubt Goldson has his flaws but who doesn't that plays in our league?

I'd imagine his new contract will be in the region of £35-40K per week costing us the better part of £7-8m over the next four years.  A lot of money!

However, for those that wanted better, I'd be interested to see who we could afford at those sort of wages and with a substantial fee on top?  By way of comparison, Helander cost us the best part of £4m in 2019 and arrived from Serie A as a fairly established Swedish international player. He's undoubtedly a good defender, but in those three seasons he's played just 59 games for club and country. During the same period, Goldson has played 169 times for Rangers alone - three times as many games!

Yes, there are times where Goldson frustrates me - he can be beaten too easily in wider areas and, certainly this season, he's allowed too many balls into the six yard area by failing to clear. His long diagonals are good but can be inconsistent and his 'vertical' passing unreliable as well at times.

However, to suggest he's not good enough in general is a serious under-estimation of a player who rarely lets us down, and has effectively led us to 55 and a Europa League Final. Another four years of him - hopefully in his prime - will certainly do me!

35 grand for all those flaws and 1 title in 4 years?  No thanks.

  10. Like davis this is another step in the wrong direction.   I was looking forward to seeing the back of his dithering at the half way line.  His inability to see a pass never mind make one and his big game blunders of which their are plenty.  Hes just not good enough for where we want to be.   I certainly wont bother waiting for him to click the way everyone else did with the entire squad after the malmo game last season.   Infact I think some in here are still waiting.

    Serious questions;

    1. Do you see Lowry every day in training? How much have you actually seen off Lowry, outwith his games in the 1st team?

    2. Would you concede the SG / GVB and their staff (or the RYD staff) know more about Lowry's attributes and what's best for his developments than any of us on a fans forum?

No I dont see any of the players every day.   do you?  Didnt know you had to have that sort of access on players to have an opinion on a player.   I have seen enough of lowry to think hes wasted on the bench and could have done a job for us on the park.  His last game where he scored an excellent goal and had two assists and a man of the match performance is testament to his abilities.   A far better option in my eyes than the likes of Ramsey who did nothing to enhance the team but was always an option when/if fit.

Too many in our support love the benefit of hindsight, something the management team don't have.

Lowry is a great prospect and if he thought he had been "rotting" then he wouldnt have signed his extension.  Simple as that

I would rate Lowry a bit higher than prospect who in my eyes should have been given far more game time this season than he got.  Total waste of that boys talent sitting on the bench.

As Gonzo says, we are in the business of winning games.  Can we risk youngsters ?  I would say only if they really have proven themselves good enough or if we are far enough ahead in games (which is an annoyance for me because we should be starting high tempo, trying to get 2 or 3 goals to the good, which then allows the youngsters game time).

I see a lot of "but Celtic have been successful bringing young players through" - but how many have they brought through since we actually became competitive again ?  None.  When they were winning the league by 30 points they could comfortably do so.  They aren't in that position now.

King and Lowry were getting game time even when we were still vying for the league.  If you are good enough you will get opportunities.  I would contend those opportunities will be greater just now given the background of Vos.

We continue to play other teams prospects while leaving ours to rot.  I dont blame Wilson for leaving .   I remember  the furore when kai Kennedy was going to leave and was persuaded to stay.  Look at him now.  Our youth policy is a disgrace.

What do we think happened here? He obviously wasn't match fit when he joined us, so was that the crux of it? He didn't have the games to get properly match fit and we didn't have the luxury to take a risk on him as we were still in for every trophy available until very recently. I seem to remember he also picked up some niggling injuries along the way which is always a risk with someone who is trying to get up to speed at this point in the season.

Hindsight is always great, but I do wonder what the thinking behind this deal was, or what assurances we had about his fitness.

I said at the time he was a waste of money and I was proven correct.
