  1. And another thing while I'm ranting. Defenders shouldn't be allowed to shepherd the ball over the byeline for a goal kick with their arms stretched out. Under the rules as they used to be, an attacking player was entitled to charge through an opponent facing his own goal. Saw Billy Simson do it. And Waddell. And Kichenbrand.

  2. I don't care how the tims get beat but from a general point of view arm flapping and jersey pulling is comparatively new - last ten/fifteen years.

And, yes, football is a contact sport but there was never a harder man than Harry Davis and you never saw him dancing about like a prima ballerina. A player can use his strength to get to the ball ahead of his opponent but standing in front of your man with your back to the flight of the ball is obstruction. It's a man's game, not a jessies' one.

Having said all that it couldn't have happened to a better man than Hooper.

  3. Speirs on Radio S on Saturday kept repeating the new mantra that Rangers' PR is aggressive , inept and tabloid style. Is he jealous of JT for getting the job?

What's more we've to stop blaming Dundee Utd. fans for the sins and ommissions of Whyte. Did anyone do that?

  4. Best non-goal. Super holds that record as well as all his others.

At Pittodrie pre-Souness. Somebody lumps the ball out of defence towards Ally positioned with his back to the goal he's attacking, half way in from the left touchline about 25 + yards from goal, closely superintended by Willie Miller. Ally chests it down, instant foot control and a turn easing Miller out of the way and a right foot screamer high into the Aberdeen net with Leighton rooted on the goal line.

What a goal! But no - away out on the right half way to Peterhead, Durrant or Cooper is standing offside under the old rules. Goal chalked off.

Miller was a top defender. That sort of thing didn't often happen to him.
