Self-indulgent
Nothing self indulgent about your posts.
Sammy Baird had his doubters when he arrived from Preston North End but he scored a lot of important Inside forward goals and never lacked effort. Played left half for the Hibs when his time at Ibrox was over.
Caldow and Wilson - what can you say? Caldow a world class player and Wilson my favourite Rangers winger (my username notwithstanding) There’s some field of runners for favourite winger title. Waddell, Scott, Henderson, Hubbard, Wilson, Cooper and Johnston and I’m still raging they let Eddie Rutherford go to Hearts.

I think he’s rode his luck a few times though.
That’s what the best managers do.

There’s not a word in that article that I disagree with.

One might think Warnock was suited to Aiberdeen, given that he could cause a rowie in an empty chaumer. .
Na, na, mannie. Thon’s a butter roll.

Clement earning his stripes yet again by making the changes necessary.
Officer’s cane, surely.
If he’s still here in three years with three championships and 80% of the other availables he might be eligible for a Field Marshall’s baton.

So why cannot WE do the same? I accept we cannot compete in the transfer market but surely our academy should be doing much much better.
There’s a much broader athletic demographic in England and a less ferocious drinking culture.

I’ve often thought that but it’s like a nuclear weapon. If you don’t have one and the other chap does, you lose.

Perhaps the core structures of the Liverpool and City teams are stronger platforms for youthful talent to prosper in them when introduced.

I've been thinking about what constitutes a past hero and whether I actually have any. I mean, are we talking only about sporting heroes? If so, the sportsman who has impressed me more than any other would have to be Dan Carter, the All Blacks fly half and possibly the greatest ever rugby player.
But if we're talking only about British sporting heroes I would find it harder to tie it down to one name - and even more so if restricted to Scottish sportsmen. Probably the greatest ever sporting Scot is still hobbling about on his metal hip but the following ten personal favourites have all made a huge impression on me at one time or another. There's no point listing Footballers because they would all be Rangers players and too many to make any real sense .........
Gavin Hastings
Chris Paterson
Ian McLaughlin
Finlay Calder
Chris Hoy
Alan Wells
Jim Clark
David Wilkie
Dick McTaggart
Colin Montgomery
A very good list. Chris Paterson could kick goals in his sleep. Place the ball, have a squint at the posts and pop it over. No weird gyrations or facial contortions like most other kickers.
Sandy Lyle if you’re talking golf-sticks?

Blackburn Rovers lose on penalties to Newcastle United. 1-1 after ninety minutes in a good old fashioned FA cup tie between two proper clubs and no drums.

Rugby Park usually invokes memories of a blistering start, being 3-0 up in 15odd minutes. 😎
Did it take as long as 15 minutes?
In 1967 Alexiei Kosygin visited Rugby Park to cheer on the Rangers. At the time he held high office in the Soviet Union most notably General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Kremlin (Commies Loyal) RSC.

In the days before TV, listening to radio commentary by Raymond Glendenning with inter-round summaries by J Barrington-Dalby, fighters always seemed to come from Poplar, or Stepney, Glasgow, Liverpool, or Tiger Bay in Cardiff. I used to think you had to be a docker before starting boxing.
Here’s another fighter. One of the best. Sammy Cox the Darvel Marvel.
