  1. Doesn't really fit in with the 'not another penny' brigade

Individuals will take a host of different measures based on how they view things.

I realise that doesn't fit with the dichotomous world that exists within internet messageboards.

  2. There could be all sorts of elements involved in the reasoning.

Firstly, NARSA clubs and their members are big supporters of the Club financially, even from such great distances, which is bound to be one of the reasons why there's always a good presence by the Club officially at the yearly NARSA conferences. So, while it's stating the obvious, a North American pre-season tour - even against small teams - does give our fans over there the opportunity to watch Rangers.

Not to mention the fact that NARSA pick up the tab for all invited guests.

Secondly, making some friends and contacts with Clubs and their staff (including scouts?) over there in America and Canada is no bad thing. The fact that they're small clubs playing in the lower tiers doesn't mean something beneficial can't come of the relationships in the long run.

Thirdly, we don't know what all will be on the agenda. We could potentially be looking for youth/development system partnerships, a full time scout over there or any number of things.

The scouting thing is a possible, but I would be surprised if there is any funding available to a) set up anything worthwhile, and b) be able to compete for the small number of players who will be both good enough and available.

Fourthly, there's some of the best golf courses in the world over there! :coolio:

You've nailed it at the end. :D

With the recent reports linking cynicism to dementia, I have about a week left before I'm gaga!

  3. Fact is the club can't run on fresh air, so unless you seriously believe the board/owners are going to stop paying the bills then it's still vital working capital being put in

Having sufficient monies to ensure that the club is able to run efficiently is a matter for the board(s). You continually get that arse about face.

  4. One of the problems I had, during the many times I wondered what was best to do, was that the board can do whatever they want whenever they want. There are no Rangers men on the board and if they want to sell the crown jewels they will simply do it - assuming they get a buyer. If they so wish they will at least secure it with one of their own so the support has no control over it.

At the end of the day, one way or another, they will get money on the way out. Whether King likes it or not. And tbh, King does not seem too concerned, does not have a notable interest in the company and has said diddly squat for near 2 months now.

A bit like the when the requisitioners agreed to the delayed gm, King appears to playing right in to Greenco's hands.

Which begs the question. Why provide them with even more funds to plunder until that day finally arrives?

    It's a tricky situation.

  5. I don't know about this holding back our money giving it to Mr King or what I do trust king and I think he has the fans best interests at heart but I amm scared that by not buying we could plunge the club over the edge , so I may have let the side down I bought two adults and two for the grandsons as I have the the past I am to old to go now but I just want whats best for the club/fans/players

It must be a personal decision, so the only one you could possibly have let down is yourself. Nobody else, on either side of the argument, can condemn others for choosing how to/not to spend their own money.

  6. IIRC back in those days we often went up to the Highlands for a couple of pre-season friendlies.

How things have changed with that Inverness side of back then.

Did we not go over to Norway a couple of times to play Viking Stavanger (sp) ?

Certainly played them in the mid-seventies.

  7. I think that it's probably more damaging at a commercial level. I think the bigger reputable firms will think twice before getting involved with us because of all that has and is going on. That includes the level of uncertainty.

To a degree we are currently 'damaged goods'.

A North American tour is all about the commercial side of things. The sides we are playing will be largely unknown even within their own cities, so it is difficult to envisage where any financial benefits will come from. The North American sports fan is brought up watching victorious teams being crowned 'world champions' despite it being domestic competition. They are used to watching the best there is and have little time for also rans.

  8. Slightly harsh - we often go abroad to play lower league teams to gain fitness. I still expect at least one game at Ibrox and one game down South to be announced.

I would be most interested to hear the merits of flying half way around the world to play sides which are, at best, Conference North/South level when similar opposition is available in the UK and on mainland Europe.

  9. When things were desperate in the recent past, the RST's SaveRangers looked like it could become a serious players in the game, but it was derailed by the RFFF, one of the biggest own goals we've ever scored and a complete waste of time and energy.

We have a few who are searching for constructive solutions, but we still have a tendency to tug our forelocks to the man in the big house, and it holds us back dreadfully.

    There are three groups:

Those who want fan ownership and democratisation of the club - like the RST: those who want another supreme commander to make all the decisions and carry all the responsibilities, which is the biggest group, and a small group intent on wrecking and badmouthing whatever comes along if it doesn't come from within the club itself.

    Effectively, they are:

    1/ The democrats

    2/ The deferential

    3/ The wreckers

The first one is growing, the second is reducing and the third is thankfully very small.

The third group may be small, but it is certainly noisy, and as history shows, is easily manipulated by the spin merchants for those controlling the club. There is a chance that their influence could be exaggerated using compliant journos within the mainstream media. The board(s) will attempt to make great play of publishing their answers to the recent 'grilling'.

  10. The good, the bad and the ugly:

    Rangers 0-1 Airdrie 75 - First memory.

Rangers 3-1 Hearts SCF 76 - First treble.

    Lyon 0-3 Rangers - Surreal.

    CSKA Moscow 0-1 Rangers 92 - Coldest.

    Rangers 2-4 Celtic 83 - Nightmare.

    Aberdeen 1-1 Rangers 87 - Overdue.

    Rangers 1-4 Unirea 09 - Disgraceful.

    Rangers 2-0 Kiev 87 - Loudest.

    Fiorentina 0-0 Rangers 08 - Joyful.

    Bohemians 3-2 Rangers 84 - Mental.

    Rangers 0-2 Zenit 08 - Underwhelming.

    Dundee Utd 0-1 Rangers 97 - Nine.

    Rangers 2-2 Celtic 87 - Gough.

    Rangers 3-2 Celtic 86 - McCoist.

    Rangers 3-1 Aberdeen 96 - Gascoigne.

    Rangers 4-1 Motherwell 99 - Mols.

Could go on and on and on......

  11. Is the finance department not the bold Big Fat Rod, CA - partner with E&Y :bouncy2:

Don't know, mate, but I have it on good authority that he gives a decent rendition of The Sash, so he's got something going for him. :D

  12. I'm no expert in this but hasn't he got a rolling contract and it only gets renewed at a set date each year if both parties agree ?

Didn't think there would be any monies due if the contract got terminated in a rolling contract as such

A rolling contract gets renewed every day.

  13. That's unfair and not true mate. One of the issues i have with this board is keeping him in place. It's scandalous if you ask me. Shows a lack of bottle and ambition.

It most certainly wasn't aimed at you, bud. I even went back and edited the post so as not to tar everyone with the same brush.
