Two old boys and the hottest striker in Scottish football last year will test Dundee as they complete their pre-season build-up with a friendly against Rangers at Dens tomorrow night (writes Tom Duthie). Dark Blues boss Alex Rae has been on to his old club looking for hints concerning the strength of the opposition and was able to sum it up with just two words ââ?¬â? extremely strong. ââ?¬Å?This is going to be a real test for us because Rangers are planning to use big- name players tomorrow. Nacho Novo and Gavin Rae are travelling, so it will be nice for our fans to welcome them back,ââ?¬Â said Alex.

ââ?¬Å?They also want to give Kris Boyd a game because he missed Motherwell through suspension. Having last seasonââ?¬â?¢s top scorer against us will be a real test for our defence.ââ?¬Â

Having been given extra time off after his World Cup exploits with Tunisia, Hamed Namouchi is also expected to start, as is new signing, Senegalese international Makhtar NDiaye.

Facing them will be ex-Ibrox man Gary McKenzie, who was rested for Saturdays friendly draw at Arbroath after missing a couple of training sessions last week because of a knock.

The player-boss will also include himself from the start and could have a look at the young Italian striker who has arrived for a trial Sunderlands Kevin Smith is not eligible to play.

ââ?¬Å?The Italian lad should be able to play and we might use him. Heââ?¬â?¢s young and very tall and this would give us a chance to see what he can do against quality opposition,ââ?¬Â added Alex.

Not featuring will be experienced pair Danny Griffin, because of his fractured wrist, and Andy McLaren, who is a big doubt for Saturdays league opener against Partick Thistle after straining a calf at Arbroath.

With the league kick-off approaching, Dundee have been pleased by season ticket sales so far and are hoping a late rush over the next few days will see roughly last seasons total reached by the weekend.

Tickets are available from the club shop at Dens.

I can see a certain Dundee manager pulling on the dark blue and playing most of the game. Hope he behaves himself too, we don't want Sionko having a broken ankle from an ex-gers man !

thats the last thing we need:admin:
