They would have bought Ronaldo if they honestly felt they had a chance of getting him. They needed to show their cards and make a big-ticket signing. Tevez does that. . I agree with that. They wanted to jump from A-Z without taking steps B, C etc first and you cant do that. They needed a 'in between' player who isnt a world beater like Kaka or Ronaldo but still shows they are going to the next level of player....Tevez does that IMO. And along with Robinho they have a few players who can be class on their day. But they MUST buy a few solid defensive players. Gareth Barry is a decent signing in the midfield as he knows what the league is all about and he gets about the pitch and doesnt shy out of a tackle. Tevez is a battler up the park but can still produce some great skills. They just lack 2 more defensive top players and they will be in with a shout to mix with the top 6.
