Gazza_8 233
Chuffed to see Thomson in the squad. George Burley has handed Danny Fox and Robert Snodgrass their first Scotland call-ups for the friendly in Japan on 10th October. Celtic full-back Fox, who has represented England at Under 21 level, has been rewarded for his fine start to the season in the SPL, while winger Snodgrass has impressed for League One leaders Leeds and the U21 side. The Cheshire-born defender - who joined the Hoops from Coventry in the summer - has switched allegiances and qualifies for selection through a Scottish grandparent. Derek Riordan, whose one and only cap for Scotland came against Austria back in 2005, will be hoping to impress in the Far East. Rangers midfielder Kevin Thomson is back in Burley's plans after recovering from a serious knee injury sustained last November, but his Ibrox team-mates David Weir, Kenny Miller and Neil Alexander are all absent from the squad. Injured Birmingham winger James McFadden is also a notable omission but there is a recall for Charlie Adam, while Ross Wallace is in line to earn his first Scotland cap. Scotland have missed out on next summer's World Cup finals and are now building towards qualification for the 2012 European Championship. Scotland squad: Goalkeepers: Gordon (Sunderland), Langfield (Aberdeen), Marshall (Cardiff). Defenders: Barr (Falkirk), Berra (Wolves), Caldwell (Celtic), Fox (Celtic), Hutton (Tottenham), McManus (Celtic) Whittaker (Rangers) Midfielders: Adam (Blackpool), Brown (Celtic), Dorrans (West Brom), Fletcher (Manchester United), Maloney (Celtic), Snodgrass (Leeds United), Thomson (Rangers), Wallace (Preston North End), Forwards: S Fletcher (Burnley), Naismith (Rangers), O'Connor (Birmingham City), Riordan (Hibernian). Looks like Whittaker will lose the LB spot to Danny 'how many tattoos have I got on my arm' Fox. Snodgrass has impressed me this season for Leeds. Charliedinho is also in the squad.
fraser54 0
Hopefully the likes of Adam, Snodgrass etc will play, along with the Celtic players and they will pick up an injury. No Kenny though, strange for a Scotland selection

Whosthedado 1,677
This game is totally ridiculous if you ask me. Who's great idea was it to have some of our players travelling half way around the world in the middle of the season for a pointless friendly?
fraser54 0
Is he not injured? Is he ? Was warming up along the touchline on Wednesday night, what about Big Kyle ? He isn't called into the squad either, he will be gutted.
Gribz 843
Crazy time to be going all the way out there. I was going to go up for the match but prices were ridiculous for a 3 day trip. Miller is overdue a rest as he has been playing 2 games per week for the last 5 weeks.
Norris Cole 0
Got those three out of there. Pointless friendly.

No Kenny though, strange for a Scotland selection Miller is going to Germany on Monday to see a specialist regarding his groin/nerve injury
Zappa 0
Why are we allowing Thomson to fly to Japan & back when his previously injured leg was swollen up after a short flight to Germany in pre season?
Super_Ally 0
Thomson doesn't get called up when he should and now arguably is called up when he shouldn't be imo. Sounds like Adam is well worth his call. Fox straight in as soon as he signed for Celtic basically? Not have to earn his call up like Thomson, Hutton, Adam etc? Edited October 1, 2009 by Super_Ally Hopefully makes more sense
