The 33-year-old Uruguayan was left in intensive care after a serious collision into a column of street lights in Montevideo on Sunday. He was put into a medically-induced coma after the incident and Doctor Mario Canela of La Espanola hospital has been quoted saying the right leg had been removed from the knee down. "Silva's situation is absolutely not solved with the amputation. We are worried about a possible infection," Canela stated. Silva played 49 matches for his country and was a member of the Uruguayan squad that played in the 2002 World Cup finals. He has scored 15 goals for the South American nation and consequently joined Pompey last summer. But the ex-Malaga and Sevilla man has been without a club since leaving Fratton Park in February.
