Church to send Old Firm film to police

AN Old Firm row has erupted after it emerged the Catholic Church in Scotland is to study all footage of last week�s League Cup final to provide evidence to police of anti-Catholic songs sung by Rangers fans.

 

The move follows complaints that Sunday�s showpiece final at Hampden Park in Glasgow was marred by sectarian chanting, despite renewed pleas from senior politicians, police and Celtic and Rangers for an end to bigotry.

 

The Church is collecting information after being told action should be taken to ban the fans responsible.

 

Although Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill described the match, which Rangers won 2-1, as the ââ?¬Å?final everyone wanted to seeââ?¬Â and a ââ?¬Å?great advert for Scottish footballââ?¬Â allegations were made of Rangers fans singing banned sectarian songs.

 

Mr MacAskill said last night any evidence of crime should be submitted to Strathclyde Police. However, the force insisted widespread arrests were not the solution.

 

Catholic Church spokesman Peter Kearney said there was particular concern about Mr MacAskill�s comments and Strathclyde Chief Constable Steve House�s own glowing praise of fans� behaviour, while Rangers fans were singing songs described as offensive.

 

Mr Kearney added: ââ?¬Å?We have had quite a lot of messages and emails from people who on the one hand are concerned at the singing and the tone and the lyrics, but more so on the Justice Ministerââ?¬â?¢s comments.

 

ââ?¬Å?We are receiving and accepting the reports, many of which are detailed, and we will look through them and we will be willing to act accordingly. The right port of call for complaints of this nature would be the police and I imagine a lot of the people who are compiling or providing information to us will probably be giving it to the police anyway.

 

ââ?¬Å?The point is, if people are displaying open, anti-Catholic hostility, that is a matter we are rightly able to comment on. Was it appropriate for Mr MacAskill to give a glow-ing and universal compliment of everyoneââ?¬â?¢s behaviour?ââ?¬Â

 

Police and Government chiefs had been on high alert for the final after an ill-tempered Scottish Cup tie that Celtic won 1-0 on March 2.

 

There were 34 fans arrested in the ground, three sendings-off and a touchline clash between Celtic manager Neil Lennon and Rangers assistant manager Ally McCoist. First Minister Alex Salmond later convened a summit that resulted in a series of measures being suggested, including the possibility of arresting players on the pitch if their behaviour boils over.

 

A spokesman for Mr MacAskill said: ââ?¬Å?This sort of unacceptable conduct is exactly why we established the Joint Action Group at the summit, and tackling sectarian chanting is one of the specific issues being addressed.

 

ââ?¬Å?Sectarian chanting is totally unacceptable and indeed illegal. We support the strongest possible action to deal with it. Any evidence should be submitted to the police.ââ?¬Â

 

Andy Kerr, president of the Rangers Supporters Assembly, said it was wrong for the Church to single them out for criticism and was surprised by the Church�s stance.

 

He said: ââ?¬Å?I am surprised this is coming from the Church. I would have thought they would be wanting to work with the groups to see if there are ways of dealing with this if there is a perception of ongoing problems.

 

ââ?¬Å?I am clear there are still examples of songs being sung that we would rather not hear, and that applies across both clubs. If there was a way to switch it off, it would be great.

 

ââ?¬Å?I donââ?¬â?¢t think for one minute we are the only fans who fall below the standards expected.ââ?¬Â

 

Joe Oââ?¬â?¢Rourke, general secretary of the Celtic Supporters Association, has also written to Mr MacAskill complaining that at the cup final he was ââ?¬Å?subjected to 120 minutes of racist, sectarian singing from the fans of Glasgow Rangers.ââ?¬Â

 

A Strathclyde Police spokesman said: ââ?¬Å?We do and will continue to robustly police any sectarian activity reported to us. We acknowledge there is still much to be done, however this is not a problem that will be fixed by arresting our way through it.

 

ââ?¬Å?We are working with the Government and other partners on the joint action group to find real and long-lasting solution to the problem of sectarianism.ââ?¬Â

 

A Rangers spokesman said: ââ?¬Å?We oppose all forms of sectarian behaviour by supporters of all clubs wherever it is displayed.ââ?¬Â

Aynone who has read any of Mad Joe O'Rourke's epistles over this season, including yesterday's; will know he habitually loses his discipline. Constantly, he refers to Rangers supporters by the 'H' term, whilst pointing the accusory finger on sectarianism. Oh the irony, but as is often said, ra Yahoos don't do irony. Further, yesterday's attack from Mad Joe stated Ibrox was, "a cess pit"; however, Martin Williams appears to have spared Mad Joe any embarrassment.

 

I wonder if Peter Kearney will be writing to the Diocese of Oregon where the Jesuit order have a agrred a pay-out of in excess of 160million dollars for 60 years of child abuse against native American children? Or, how about correspondence with Strathclyde Poilce after yesterday's conviction in a Perth court of a constable singing songs in support of the IRA?

What a pity so-called 'representatives' like Andy Kerr aren't smart enough or committed enough or informed enough to respond properly to these contrived news releases. Why does Kerr always start by effectively agreeing with the accusation and then offer the pathetic excuse that 'they're doing it too'. It's fucking cringeworthy and it happens every time.

Pouring threw the wreckage of another failed cup final and just cant accept it, and thet are looking for excuses to blame someone, they gave as good as they got on Sunday with there usual IRA songs, they must sit at Celtic park with very large earmuffs on and choose to ignore what rolls of the tongues of there so called best fans in the world!!! Never believe any of this is about Celtic or Ireland. It's about nothing but the survival and empowerment of the Roman Catholic church. Celtic exists because of the Roman Catholic church, not the other way around. Similarly, Ireland is a power-base for the benefit of the Roman Catholic church, not a country that uses the Roman Catholic church for it's own national benefit. The problem we face is one instigated by the ambitions of the Roman Catholic church - republicanism, Celtic, and the IRA are all just convenient vehicles for expression of the Roman Catholic church's strategy .... and they play a very long game.

US Jesuits agree to school sex abuse pay-out

An order of US Catholic priests has agreed to pay $166.1m (�£103.3m) to hundreds of Native Americans sexually abused by priests at its schools.

 

The former students at Jesuit schools in five states of the north-western US said they were abused from the 1940s through the 1990s.

 

Under a settlement, the Society of Jesus, Oregon Province, will also apologise to the victims.

 

The order had argued paying out abuse claims would cause it to go bankrupt.

 

"It's a day of reckoning and justice," Clarita Vargas, who said she and two sisters were abused by a priest at a Jesuit-run school for Native American children in the state of Washington, told the Associated Press.

 

"My spirit was wounded, and this makes it feel better."

 

The province ran schools in the states of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington.

 

Most of the alleged victims were Native American. Much of the alleged abuse occurred on Native reservations and in remote villages, where the order was accused of dumping problem priests.

 

"No amount of money can bring back a lost childhood, a destroyed culture or a shattered faith," lawyer Blaine Tamaki, who represented about 90 victims in the case, said in a statement.

 

The pay-out is one of the largest to date in a series of sex abuse scandals involving the Catholic Church.

The catholic church should get their own house in order before preaching to people who aren't part of their cult. Their deranged, mentally challenged priests are still abusing children all over the world and yet they've got the cheek to try and have respectable people sacked from their jobs for forwarding emails containing jokes about the pope? They've got the cheek to preach about sectarianism in Scotland? They should concentrate on cleaning up their corrupt church and it's paedophilic priests who lie and cover for one-another when they get caught or found out.

 

If they want to take a look at something serious, they should line up their priests for a lie detector test and expert interrogation on the subjects of paedophelia, sex abuse and rape instead of constantly sweeping the subject under the carpet. Get this! Paedophile, paedophelia, paedophilic and all related words (including the alternative spelling starting with 'pedo') are completely blocked from the Google prediction service. You'd be forgiven for thinking certain people don't want searches for online content which includes such words to be made easy.

The "them" here isn't Celtic, it's the catholic church. You need to check your perspective on this. Celtic isn't driving anything here, they only read the script they're given. This isn't anything Rangers can fix. It can only be addressed by raising the ante on the catholic church and it's ambitions to strengthen it's role in Scottish society. The club can speak up against these catholic schemes but will only confirm the myth of sectarianism already being promoted by the cult's mouthpieces - "see, we told you they were anti-catholic".

 

We need to be much smarter. Their key weakness is their apartheid schooling system and that should be our target at every turn. Just watch them back off if they feel the schools they use to indoctrinate and assure the continuity of their flock are under threat. Deal with the catholic. Church and Celtic won't matter a damn.

So-called 'Faith Schools' have been endorsed by the British Gov' and they're set to rise in number if anything in the UK.
