Villa appoint McLeish as manager.

Recommended Posts

Villa havent been right since Martin O Neill left. The appointment of Houllier was a strange one and to go for your biggest rivals manager who he has relegated twice is a strange one regardless if its McLeish or not.

The Villa fans have been picky though, rightly so. Steve McClaren had an interview lined up yet they voiced their opinion and the meeting was cancelled. That might come back to haunt them. But when you think Moyes name was floating around I can see why their fans would want a bigger name.

It will be an interesting one though. It could be the first time Eck has a serious transfer budget to compete with. Plus he inherits a couple of quality players currently at Villa.

Name me a manager who hasn't made bad signings, that's football. Point is it should always be the managers choice who he signs otherwise you undermine his vision for the club. Notice how Brum are still signing players without a manager?? How does that work!

What players have they signed after McLeish left?

What players have they signed after McLeish left?

Birmingham City have completed the free transfer signing of midfielder Morgaro Gomis on a two-year deal despite the departure of Alex McLeish as manager. - BBC

He had nowt to do with this signing and he signed on Wed I think.

The squad he had at Brum was a championship squad, even the season they finished 9th. Had the owner backed him like they said he would, there is no way they wouldve went down. Winning the Carling Cup was also to his downfall as it took a lot out his players. His squad was so lightweight towards the end that Johnson, Fergie and Ridgewell were all taking injections to play.

Imagine Whyte came in and started signing players for Ally, then sent his own coaches to Murray Park. I doubt very much if Ally would stick around
