McCoist playing it safe

Recommended Posts

Stating the bleedin obvious is it not. Whyte and McCoist have both been great at talking the talk. Lets see some action ffs. Am I the only one getting pissed off at this?

This mate, starting to get fucked off 3 weeks til the season starts. No mention of Davis or Shagger Bougherra , Whittaker, signed extensions yet? Bougherra and Whittaker should be sold if they dont want to stay we will have another Miller scenario in january..

They're changing their tune a bit now are they not? A week or two ago they were saying it's about getting the right players, the right quality and now they're basically saying that quality might not be as important as quantity.

Good to hear. This is not a quick fix, we are at the start of a major rebuilding process that will take from anywhere from 4-8 years to complete. i for one am happy that we are not going to be bully/be stupid enough to part with money we can't afford. The transfer window is open three days with two months to go.

it's all good so ar

Yeah, strange one - that's what the Bheasts have been doing for the past 3 years - and what have they won?

Touch of overreaction, IMHO. Basically he's saying that we won't splash 4m on one player like Walter did last season, while we are in dire need of strength in depth. For we have Jelavic now and cannot risk signing another big gun who might be out for half of a season and we need to start playing fringe players. (That said, if we'd done it like any other club in the SPL and rotate the squad regularly, the "fringe" players may actually show their true abilities and bypass one of the old campaigners, people who think theyy have a right to get every start and then do not show up on the park as they should do.)

Essentially, we are still very much in transition and have to rebuild our squad for the time being. CL money will come in from last season, hopefully we get another whip at the silver pot this time around too. Then the future will eventually brighten up further. And while many on here may not want to hear it, we need to build a team to challenge for the title again, solid SPL-able folk who may be groomed into something greater later on. Europe is (and always has been) a bonus.

Agree with dB...

It's obvious we only have a finite amount of money this summer yet we need to sign at least 5 players. As such, a big money signing was never going to be on the cards.

The difficulty the manager has is whether to spend £5million on two players (say Cuellar and Goodie) and perhaps sell one or two to help finance others (or concentrate on cheaper loan deals) or retain as many players as possible on new contracts (ensuring squad continuity) and supplementing this with a few imaginative signings which can be found cheaply. That's easier said than done but there are bargains to be had.

The apparent signing of up of the likes of McGregor, Davis and Whittaker can only be a good thing but we still need four of five players to come in. IMO though I would rather we tried to bring in 3 or 4 top players who are good enough to go straight into the team rather than buying 5 or 6 players who are there simply to make up the numbers.
