He's in his 30's by now though. Couldn't expect him to go to Man U or the like. He's still probably on more money than the majority of Gers players.

Skysports.com understands Blackpool have agreed a fee to sign Birmingham midfielder Barry Ferguson.

The Scot has one-year left on his contract at St Andrews, but is thought to want to move north in order to be closer to his family.

Reports emerged earlier in the summer of interest from Ian Holloway's Blackpool, who like Birmingham were relegated from the Premier League last season.

And it is now understood that a fee has been agreed between the two clubs and Ferguson has been granted permission for talks.

Supportive

The 33-year-old has also been linked with a move to Bolton and Sunderland, but Blackpool are looking for an influential midfielder after the sale of former captain Charlie Adam to Liverpool.

Meanwhile, David Vaughan has admitted there was never a dull moment working for Holloway after the midfielder completed his move Steve Bruce's Sunderland earlier in the week.

He said: "I don't think anyone can compare to Olly, to be honest.

"I left on good terms. He has been really good to me and very supportive, so I can only thank him."

Asked if he was missing his former manager, Vaughan replied: "Possibly a little bit. There was never a dull day with Olly around."

He'd be nuts to turn down the chance of Bolton or Sunderland to go to Blackpool.

I wouldnt be surprised to see Blackpool back in League 1 in the next few years.

At his age he's done it all tbh. This appears to be a move purely based on being closer to his family. There's nothing really left for him to realistically achieve in football. Let's face it, he ain't winning the EPL or CL any time soon.
