Fleck and Hutton going nowhere

From the BBC.

Sheffield United have failed in an attempt to sign Rangers midfielders John Fleck and Kyle Hutton on loan.

The League One club have been told that deals for the 20-year-olds were not registered in time with the Football Association in England.

United director Scott McCabe told his club website: "We have had to eventually admit defeat.

"We expected the transfers to go through and were surprised when we were told they had not been completed."

United manager Danny Wilson will now turn his attention elsewhere once the loan transfer window opens again tomorrow.

McCabe added: "It has been a very frustrating time for all concerned.

Rangers' Kyle Hutton Hutton made several appearances for Rangers under Walter Smith

"Everyone in the football administration team at the club has worked very hard to try to make these transfers happen.

"The manager will now move on to other targets. It is the case that transfers can break down for many reasons, so Danny will already have other options in mind to strengthen our squad."

Rangers secured a deal to send striker Andrew Little to League Two outfit Port Vale on the final day of the summer transfer window.

Manager Ally McCoist wanted to find regular first-team football for Fleck, who signed a new three-year contract at Ibrox in 2010, as well as Hutton - who is tied to the Scottish champions until 2014.

Hutton was linked with Scottish First Division side Partick Thistle before the deal with United looked like being finalised.

He broke into the Rangers first team in August 2010 but has not featured this season for the Glasgow side.

Fleck, the nephew of former Rangers striker Robert Fleck, made his debut as a 16-year-old in January 2008.

He became the youngest-ever player to feature in a senior British cup final when appearing as a substitute in Rangers' 2008 Scottish Cup final win.

That outing against Queen of the South was one of Fleck's 55 appearances but, like fellow Scotland Under-21 international Hutton, most of those have been as a subsitute.

Good news for me especially with Hutton, I think he should be playing much more. Its ok saying sitting on the isnt doing him good but for me he would be playing well ahead of McCulloch and Edu. And with Ness injury prone, Mckay not in the team yet, Hutton will come in handy during the busy winter periods.

For Fleck going out in loan would have done him good as he has went backwards in the last 2-3 seasons, so regular football to get his confidence back would have been good.

Didn't really want to see them go, but it's a bit of a shame for the lads that the Sheffield move wasn't allowed because a few months at Bramall Lane would have been a far better experience than a few months at Firhill.

I agree that the Sheffield experience would have been a bit more 'character' building and it's a better level, but you never know how easy it would be to turn the heads of young players down south, or who indeed gets speaking in thier ear. There's more danger of them being lost to the Scottish game if they went south.
